Actually I got my black blade Hissatsu in today. The black is nice. It is a polished black not the frosted look I expected from a CRKT knife. I do think it will probably show stratches worse than its silver blade cousin. There are several scuffs on the base of the blade from where the scabbard grips it. It looks as though a small grain of sand or grit got in there and left a 1.5 cm stratch on the blade. It was bright silver. I took a Sharpie marker and barely touched it and it was gone, but a bigger one down on the blade would be a mess.
I was very impressed by the strength and rigidity of the blade that looks rather slim in pictures. I also liked the much hated (by many) handle. It is hand filling to me and very grippy. I do admit to considering making-adapting a small low profile Tsuba for the Hissatsu and/or wrapping the handle in silk cord. Time will tell me if I need this modification. I may just put this one away until I learn if the black blade is going to be common or if I have a bit of a rare Hissatsu.
I was told by the gentleman at knifeworks.com that this black blade version was a market sample. I would assume that means that CRKT may be considering it as an option. My trip to the CRKT web site showed nothing about it. My blade is embossed with the same catalog number as the original stainless version so it is not a seperate model yet.
