Run. Run NOW!

That, or get used to eating Ramen and being broke the rest of your life. ;)

Welcome to BF. :)

PS - You'll need a Gold membership or above to talk values or sell here. Also, you'll be taken more seriously if you use complete sentences with proper punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.

You found the best place for data on knives.

What models do you have currently?

For Case and Buck knives, go to the Traditional subforum.
If you want to sell knives later for profit, good luck. Just don't count on it.

Welcome to BF!

Like many have said, don't count on making money from 'trading' knives. Just like buying a new car, the value starts to depreciate as soon as it is used. Unless you are a used car dealership, it's rare to see people making money by trading cars.

Case knives are geared towards the collector market. They make many patterns in different handle materials, some are only released yearly. You can subscribe to Case knives' newsletter and they will keep you up to date on new releases. But don't purchase them directly from Case. I collect Case Cheetah knives and they very nice to display.

For Buck knives , there are a few dealers that sell special factory orders. Buck makes knives in unique configurations and are only available from those dealers. You can subscribe to their newsletters too.
If you visit the Buck sub forum here , you can learn about special factory orders.

Also you can go directly to Buck's website and have them build you a custom knife. They currently offer 9 models that are customizable.

Good Luck and welcome

Resist the impulse. Don’t be swayed by “It’s for sale so I have to buy it now before someone else does!”. Have a plan, concentrate your interest if you intend to collect. Quality > Quantity

If you intend to accumulate, disregard everything above and Buy Buy Buy !

Welcome:)

My advice, never buy anything you want to sell. Enjoy the hobby because you enjoy it. Buy what speaks to you, what you like to look at, what you like to use. Hell, buy something because you saw it in a movie once and always wanted one. Don't be afraid to start small and cheap. We all started somewhere, and most of us that started young got into the hobby probably first by a family member gifting us a nice knife and then buying what we could afford after that (that is to say, junk). That doesn't matter. As you collect more and your earning power increases, you'll gravitate toward nicer/higher end stuff...or not:) That's cool too.

Since you have joined here, I would strongly suggest taking any advice given to you by the members to heart. You have found the single most concentrated wealth of knife knowledge on the planet. All walks of life, all interests, all sorts of passions and expertise here. If there is something with an edge on it, you can bet someone here knows a great deal about it.

Collect what you like. Don't worry about what others might say your collection is "incomplete" without.

Get used to saying "My name is , and I have a problem." Honestly, if you do not let it cause financial or marital problems, collect what you like, get at least a gold membership, and sell a few. Realize there is never finding the perfect knife, but the search is where the fun is, meet and talk to a lot of great people, even the grumpy ones here :D, and realize there are threads that have been created and been forgotten about, so use the search function, and do not see things personally.

Welcome !

Regarding price, follow the sales here on BF for a while, and you'll get the hang of it. This is also a great place to buy: I trust members (with good feedback) here more in assessing a knife, then buying even new from a shop (quality can vary - even for expensive brands). Also, you save sales taxes at least, typically more.

Roland.

Write down your goal. What do you want your collection to be?

One of everything? Lol. Not realistic.

A collection needs focus. Then compile a list of what you want in the collection. Then go from there. If it’s on the list look for it for a good deal from a reputable source.
If you see something you think you want that is not on the list, add it to the list and wait a week.

Seriously. The best advice is to buy a few high quality knives to use. Then put the rest of your money into savings.
