Tried to start a new thread with this but the forum powers that be refuse to let it happen so I shall just pick this thread since it's handy and call it what bawanna chooses to make.

Well a typical wet weekend in the NW which isn't all bad. I get to play in my man cave and not feel guilty about not cutting grass or chopping wood or messing around in the big shop.

After weeks of contemplation and some horse trading Pugs lovely YCS (one of them) came to live with me. Drop dead gorgeous khukri if I ever laid eyes on one and I've laid eyes on a few.

I decided the wall is a might cluttered and it along with a few prized possessions from my kami down in Corn Patch needed a special place of honor, or what I refer to as "Under Glass". Actually it's plastic but it'll do fine for my side of the tracks.

I decided to modify a rifle stand I made a few years back, had a nice hunk of Cherry (I think) and wanted to make something with it, kind of a got the wood, now what to do with it kind of a deal.

Anyhow for the last year or so it sported a lovely Remington 22 target rifle, ironically also traded for with Pugs, are we bros or what? It was on top of this case and handy to grab and fondle but always covered in dust and had to move it and other stuff to access the "stuff" under glass.

So enough lip flappin, here's what I come up with.
Here tis out in the open where I could get a semi decent picture. As you'll see in following photo's under glass is tough.

Along with the YCS I put the cherished dagger (pattern welded, not Damascus) up front, proverbial thing of beauty, and the little hatchet that is just a mind boggling piece of blacksmith perfection off to the left. I look at it often and think, how the heck did he do that. The handle itself and attachment is one of the wonders of the world.

Bookie kami, must have spent a fair bit of time doing this sort of thing.

Well that's all I got for now, I'm a checkering guruguru's second bowie, just needed to straighten out the old neck and flex the hands a bit and we'll be back at the bench.

Remember the bayonet raffle is kaput tomorrow, if you want in act quickly. Lets say cut off time at high noon PST. Then I'll try and play with Steve's random number counter dealyhymer and keep throwing out my winning numbers until somebody else wins.

looks great man, always love pictures of your work area and collection, don't forget to post your work on that next guruguru grip!

Ask and ye shall receive.

Here's guruguru 2. Checkered, added a little line top and bottom for decoration, rounded off behind the cho and modified the tang a bit but left it full length this time.

I saw a bottle of Birchwood Casey Aluminum black as I was rolling through a store couple weeks ago so I grabbed it, (and paid for it, not like I hid it and shoplifted or nuthin like that). It works way gooder than the old black sharpie. Seems to want to stay on and matches the horn pretty well. How it will hold up remains a question.
This was a good thing since as you can see Kami Min didn't do too uniform a job on the rivets. Oddly spaced and the back one on the drivers side spread out to about the size of Lake Erie. With the aluminum black and after oiling they rivets nearly disappeared.
Still he did a fine job on this knife over all. Handles seem very secure and fit was very good.

Then for no particular reason other than we kind of talked about it on guruguru # 1 now known as stinger I decided to blue it.

Again it took the bluing pretty well, stayed pretty even. Went over it 5 or 6 times to get a thorough coverage. All in all I'm not ashamed of it, turned out pretty decent, another one that's gonna be difficult to send home.
I'm gonna keep it a couple days to make sure the bluing process stops and the aluminum black doesn't do anything funny. It actually kind of bubbled for a bit until I ran water over it per the instructions. Bubbling I guess is a good thing.

Man! Talk about midnight special! That looks really cool with a full checker and blued pins. Excellent job Mr. B:thumbup:

Your display setup looks great. That is certainly one of the nicest Khukris I have ever seen!

Just remember that you want to keep any steel away from prolonged exposure to leather. The salts and tanning solutions can cause rust and discolouration on a blade, especially a carbon steel one. You should line the leather with something protective.

Enjoy!:)

You're gonna say "No way." but...did you just go full ~tactical~ on that pygmy Bowie? :D

(Folks, I know he doesn't like this word, telling you just in case you didn't read an old thread around here or don't have my amazing memory :P.)

Nothing less than what I'd expect to come out of this gentleman's hands, though ;).

I always thought that there were in fact some tanning solutions that would be safe around carbon steel. And that the biggest problem in that situation is that leather itself tends to trap moisture, of course unless you actually have a wooden scabbard underneath the leather. Please correct me if I am wrong, because I am not speaking from experience here.

Honestly I am no expert in the leather tanning field. You may well be correct about the moisture.

I just know that after 30+ years of collecting knives I have seen some beautiful blades (and guns) ruined by sheaths and holsters. In this case I would line the leather with something benign like a piece of plastic, and give the blade a liberal coating of Break Free.

This is a stunningly beautiful blade and I would err on the side of caution.

Thank you. Indeed, "Better be safe than sorry."

Now, if I only followed my own advice each and every time...:)

Wow! Full stealth MMB this time. Very cool. Didn't even know you started working on it. I bought this one from Auntie sight unseen, so talk about a first impression!

I believe that vegetable tanned leathers are OK but oil tanned (chrome tanned) are the ones with salts that can corrode over time.

Saw that YCS on the marketplace. It sure is pretty. Glad it went to a good home!
(And now I know where to find it :D)

I never store blades or guns in leather cept on my hip. I'm glad you mentioned that Steve, even though the blade is just resting on the leather and it's old well worn belt leather I don't want to risk anything. I'll put something between steel and leather. The handle end is probably ok but I'm not taking no chances there either.
It was kind of a aha, this will work moment as I was trying to figure out what to do. I thought about a mini version of Bookie's blade rack but was wanting to get on guru's tactical stealth stinger so I had to move fast.

That an my granddaughter was trying to cut teeth on my 1911 I had on the bench, had to help her with that ya know?
Plus don't want baby drool, unlike dog slobber to set on the gun for too long.

I love the way you got them all arranged Bawanna. Definitely want to put something under that blade between it and the leather, but other than that it sure makes a beautiful presentation. That musta been some mule you traded to get your hands on that YCS. But it looks like it found it's way to where it needed to be almost as if it belonged with you. :D
