New horizons; traditional lockblades.

Hi,

my first post here and as I also like lockback folders a lot,
I thought this would be a good way to start posting.
Here’s what I got so far:

All_Lockbacks.jpg

Left site from top:
Pohl Force Alpha Two, Gerber Metolius.
My 'working knives', not exactly traditional though.
2x Buck 110, Buck 507, two versions of Lionsteel Opera,
a cheap ($12,75) but quite good mini folder from a Chinese shop.

Right site from top:
Three versions of the Lionsteel backlock folders, three older Viper folders
Carl Schlieper (German Eye) sort of a sodbuster with stag handle
and a Boker white folding hunter.

As for the ideas, personally I’m just learning about Italian and Spanish manufacturers,
like Lionsteel, Viper, Fox, Muela, Joker, just to mention a few.
They have quiet some interesting and well-priced folders.

regards

Thomas

A pair of Case 3 dot (1977) 61051 LSSP's in jigged wood and some type of synthetic. The blades are 440C and I love the edge they take and hold.

A better shot of the jigged wood 61051 seen above (bought it new 33 years ago; wish I could buy a bunch of them now to give to friends.)

Gotta love these also:

Ford,

I like the "cool cats" . You do a very nice job when you photograph your knives!

Tom-123, Nice collection! and nice first post, thanks for sharing.

Ken

Thanks Ken, I appreciate your kind words.

One of the best Buck knives ever made, imho, the 532 in D2 & walnut:

Those Case P105 1/2 with clippointblades strikes me as mighty fine knifes. Cant for my world understand how a pattern like that has ended production. For such a knife in CV I would think seriously how to get it!

Jack-knife, here's a couple of RoughRider Mustang lockbacks, around $10 each. They're 3-5/8 closed and 6-1/4 inches open, and you can pinch them easy--no need to use the nick. The choil gives them a nice feel in the hand and easy to control.

Fewpop, I love the leaf-shaped blade on the Buck 532. Real nice!

You know Blues likes you when he sends you a carbon steel bladed, yellow-handled knife. ;) (I have a large Boker Sodbuster he graciously sent me last year.)

I know Jackknife started this thread, but I keep coming back to it and looking up the knives in the new pics; I've got a whole new list to start 'acquiring'.

There's some GREAT photography here, guys! Thanks for posting.

thx - cpr

Ford, I am loving those of yours, especially the 1051/2 lockbacks.
Thanks for sharing,
Jim

Jackknife, you just gotta get one of those. Easy pinch open and locks up tight.

More lockbacks...

I really like the Texas Ranger. Just wish it was smaller and more pocketable.

Not sure what happened - I quoted the post but the pic of the Texas Ranger folder I referred to didn't show up.

Not exactly in the jigged bone traditional vein..

The Gerber Folding Sportsman series was one of the nicest production lock backs of the day, especially those made in Solingen in the early 70s' (had one myself until I let a buddy talk me out of it).

Bowen made a few lock backs in the 70's that were very nice...I think Vince has/had a few of them.

Man you know that is almost as nice as the Case SBJ. Good on you Blues for that one. Great knife there. I don't know how I've never seen it before.

I guess I'm kinda glad to see another Gerber Silver Knight as I have quite a few. They came in 3 sizes and lockback and slipjoint versions with wood, pearl, stag, and bone scales. I don't have them all, but I've got a representative sample. The picture below shows the majority of the ones I have. It's not a particularly good picture, but if anyone wants to see some more photos I can do some and post them up.

One of those Wharncliffe Copperlocks is on my "must have" list.

Lets try the link on that Texas Ranger one more time...

Another nice lockback that you guys should consider is the new 72 pattern from GEC. it's based on their Scout trapper with a single clip-point blade.

Jackknife:

The A.G. Russell One-Hand Knife may not qualify as traditional for you. A.G. has only been making them since 1988. It’s technically a lock back, but not a traditional one in the style of the Buck 110. It has ambidextrous studs for simple opening. The lift-and-unfold lockback is easy to unlock, with two hands or one.

I’ve been carrying one with Sambar stag scales for half a year. The spear point General Purpose blade opens parcels, peels fruit, cuts steak, and makes fuzz sticks. The longer I use it, the more I love it.

Here’s a link: http://www.agrussell.com/a-g-russell-one-hand-knife-in-zdp-189-india-stag/p/K87ChhhZDPhhhS/

Good luck.
