New Hunter

Rob, any old thing will do for those deer out there. If you want a real test, send me the knife, Jerry and I will test it out on NC whitetails. Better yet, bring it yourself and we'll give you a few hunting pointers.

Really nice Rob.., boy that looks darn near perfect for the intent.

Thanks for the picture too...great job...

Just kicking this one back up to the top as I've been dreaming of this design for a couple of years now.

Any ideas on when this might see production and if it might get about another 3/4"? :D

March, April, May! You've made me a very, very happy person. I was afraid it might be a year out.

The only reason I've pushed for an extra 0.75" is that, for my own personal experience, I find that I either end up using a 3" blade for some stuff, or a 5" blade for other stuff, or a really long blade for a few things. For me, a 4" blade is either a smidge too long for the 3" chores and smidge too short for the 5" chores. Just my own personal preferences. I find 2.5 - 3.0" blades real useful, and 4.75 - 5.5" blades real useful. But as they say opinions are like.... and that applies to mine as well.

Of course, if it stays 4", I sure as heck will still be shouldering my way up the line to try and get one as quick as I can. You're handle designs on utility/hunter knives must have used my hand as a model considering how well they fit me. The blade shape offers exactly what I need for 99% of my utility/hunting needs, nothing more, nothing less. I would have ponied up for a Chinook a LONG time ago if they could be had in something other than talonite. Don't get me wrong, I love talonite but it's a bit cost prohibitive for me in blades this size. That's why I am completely STOKED about this model you're about to put into production. I'm a huge fan of this design! It's like a Pikuni on steroids. :D

Nobody, personal experiance is how we all learn what works best. I do know the handle is a bit long, maybe ill take a whisker off the handle and add some to the blade.

BTW, I skinned a whole Buffalo with the proto hunter a month ago and the ARDI 150 steel worked better than I could have ever hoped. You have to skin every inch of a Buffalo. I may use ARDI 150 (modified D-2) for the hunter.

One of my all-time favorite designs - put me down for a couple when go into production - D-2 would be fantastic - still one of my favorite steels. Have fun in Vegas!!! :D :D :D

Rob, are those tubes holding the scales? If so, I would change over to pins. Cleaning blood out of those could be a pain. Other than that it looks like a winner. Of course you'll have to send Jerry and I a couple to test out first.

Better send it to me. Terrill already have enough blades... :)

Great design Rob! That one should do very well for you.

Man, this place seems to be becoming a magnet for the talented folks to hang out. Now all we need is for the Cat and the good Dr. to chime in.

Now these two guys above me don't need to do any testing, they're WAY too busy to give one of your knives a workout, you should let somebody like me do the testing. :D

Seriously though, I think Terrill's idea of bolts over tubes has some merit.

Cat and good Dr?

Jerry, see you tomorrow night buddy! I need a break, and a good shot of Scotch with you! :)

Terrill, good point on the tubes. See you soon man!

Nobody, got it! :) I was lucky to spend some time with all those mentioned last weekend, a good time was had by all.

Michael, I am heat treating what I think is the final proto today, I will post pictures in the next couple days.

I can take pre orders any time on the hunter, this of course commits you to nothing, just gets you a shot at the first run. :)

What I'd really like to see is an Urban Raven with a single guard (no knife-fighting in my future) and maybe a slightly more clipped point.

This Hunter is looking pretty close.

Umm, Michael, you just described to a tee the proto in heat treat. It has the Urban handle, and a slight thumb ramp, and same blade but lower guard is sculpted differently.
