New Hunting knife help

If I might add a bit on the Golden Spike... two main variants of the U.S. produced Schrades are available. The first of these knives, at least from it's 1973 intro thru circa mid 1995, is bladed with .165 1095HC carbon steel blades, my own favorite cutlery steel. After mid 1995, they switched to .135 440A stainless as mentioned above. If a seller does not state which steel the knife uses (most don't know), the stainless blades are marked SCHRADE+ to indicate 440A.

Good addition, Codger. And I'd love to run up on one of the 1095 versions at some point. Nothing cuts like carbon!

So is the handle real stag or plastic? I'm guessing it's some synthetic since the prices are so cheap.

Yuck! Thanks for the response. I think I'll look at something else.

It holds up well, but it's not the prettiest thing to look at.

Uncle Henrys were solid, working knives, but I always like the dark brown of the Old Timer scales a little better.

For the most part, the OTs have carbon steel as opposed to stainless in the UHs.

The 1095 Schrade's are excellent users - handles are practically indestructible and comfortable, and the steel, well, my Sharpfinger is my best field prep knife. It is small, sturdy, excellent blade shape, and insanely sharp. I paid $25.00.

I would suggest the buck vangard in rubber handle or a Buck 110. Both are great to use for game.
