New idea for temporary grip enhancement on Becker stock scales

I know that you are speaking of temporarily adding to the grip but I figured I would show my stipling. It hasn't created any hot spots or blisters. I haven't had any slipping whatsoever, even using it when my hands were slick from trout and cleaning fish.
If you don't know how slick trout can be, the closest thing I can think of is an eel...

Take a look, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1194441-Mod-d-the-new-bk2?highlight=bk2

I just added a Ranger Band (tire inner tube) on the handle and it gave an excellent grip, does not hurt your hand and perhaps the slight rubber gives it a little shock absorption. I used no gloves chopping all day and no blisters, just a nice grip. Cheap and cheerful!!!

Another temporary solution (that's also pretty durable) is the stretchy silicone plumbing tape. Sticks to itself; turns your grip gecko style. Nashua Tape Products self-fusing silicone sealing tape. Fixes hoses and pool plumbing leaks, too. Even comes in colors at your local big box hardware store. I just got a couple rolls of green...'cause they were on sale, and the stuff is handy to have around even if you never use it on your grip. It's also found as Stretch & Seal (in the plumbing dept., I got the green in L&G), IIRC.

Fantastic! If your ever in your crawl space hacking at a copperhead and you hit a pipe...your covered!

This is a perfect example of regional differences. We don't have crawlspaces (for the most part) here in the Northeast - only basements and cellars. And if there is copperhead in there, chances are you've gone through a translocational micro-wormhole. Poisonous snakes (and spiders and scorpions and other stuff like that) don't particularly care for our winters here.....or our basements, which are frequently inhabited by playrooms or workshops or man-caves. Also, if you hit a pipe with your BK-9 (or 2 or 4 or 7)...you are going to need something way more serious than tape to fix it. Even this tape - which is temp rated from -65° to 500°F, solvent resistant, insulated against 800V, waterproof, leaves no residue AND stretches up to 300%! - will not heal your pipe if sliced by any of the more formidable Beckers. maybe if you hit it with an 11 or a 14....but then again, why on earth would you be hunting snakes around plumbing with such a small knife?

....what was your point?

My point was to make a stupid joke. I'm an electrician so I spend a fair amount of time in crawl spaces. The company I work for also does heating and air and plumbing both are always needing electrical support and are almost always in crawl spaces. Here in NC its rare to see a house on a slab and although there are many basements the majority of houses by far do not have them.
Critters around here seem to love the crawl spaces and the snakes, which are plentiful, follow them right in for dinner. I never go in without something to hack with because there's no getting out quick and copperheads tend to be aggressive.
So....when you mentioned that tape a scene just popped in my head...
Doesn't seem to humorous now having to give a long explanation...

A lot of newer homes have pex piping that's plastic and flexible so, yeah, you could nick it and it will give due to its flexibility and it's usually kinda hanging under the joists and not tightly secured. Copper, most of which is 1/2", has less give but is harder and would probably nick as well rather than being cut apart unless you intentionally directly hit it. Sounds like the tape would do in a pinch for a glancing blow or from being clipped while hacking at the ground and the pipes being overhead...so, yeah....

I knowed it wuz a joke....
....but also funny to me cuz we just don't have those sorts of situations 'round here. I install security and have spent the last 20 years in basements myself - almost NO crawlspaces - and I never even thought to worry about what I might encounter.....

I did try that and it actually worked great as far as function, I have me el cheapo machete handle wrapped in beach cruiser inner tube, but for the bk9 i was hoping to put on just the bare minimum of grippy. Plus I really like to have quick access to the hex bolts, that's just a weird personal thing.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and try the rubber grip tape thing, I'll post some pics and do a follow up after using it a few weeks. I know there's a rubberized grip tape that guys wrap their polymer pistols with, I might give that a try too.

While on this subject, anyone heard of "sugru"??? It's a moldable silicon putty that supposedly cures really steadfast.... Doesn't seem like it would hold up to me, put I've seen a few pics of people using it to hold up pots and pans, so who knows...

Thank you for the replies amigos

I've used sugru to hold down iPhone cables and the like at various locations.
It seems to hold well for a time, but I've had a couple come loose. Really depends on the substrate, the environment, and the amount of work you put into molding it. I don't think the stuff is as great as I did when it first came out.
Anyway, I don't think it would stick all that well to the factory Zytel. That's some pretty chemically-resistant stuff. But I haven't tested the theory.

Crap. Sorry. At least I didn't revive it, but I somehow thought this thread was new-ish.
Haven't tried the anti-slip.

search internet for " talongungrip " ...... click " material " ......select " Rubber " .......profit

it'll cost less than just almost anything else, goes on easy, lasts near to forever, provides the perfect amount of texture and non slip without creating hot spots...

IMHO, it is quite simply, the perfect solution to the issue if indeed it is an issue for you....
