It hard to tell from memory. Last one was smoother because I bought it used. The was pretty snug. A little oil and some talc and it is now pretty perfect.

I wonder if overtime the clip will poke through the leather, though. Thoughts?

Yes -- if you insert the knife in a consistent orientation, it will. In the case of my Mnandi, the tip of the clip started to break through after about 3 years of EDC . . . Not to worry; I've now started to insert the Mnandi 180 degrees rotated axially. Hoping the pouch will last another 3 years. Perhaps after that, I'll rotate end-to-end.
