New job, new knife

In your situation, I d use my Sage 1. 3 inch blade, light and thin, and carbon fiber. Good all around edc.

I had an A.G. Russell Acies II, which was a great knife.
The other great one is a Spyderco Michael Walker liner-lock.
They are both gone, as they were too small for my large hand...but great office-carries.
Unique, attractive, non-threatening IMO.

The Benchmade 482 Megumi is a very nice little knife. I got one for my father for x-mas, and the fit / finish on the knife is top shelf. It is VERY non-threatening.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. To those that asked what I'll be using it for, the real answer is probably nothing, at least on a regular basis. At my previous job I used knives daily to open boxes, but at this new job all packages are delivered, opened, and logged by the ordering department. I want to carry a knife, I don't need to.

For now I'm taking Bld522's advice and carrying my small Sebenza unclipped, and I'll probably swing by Plaza Cutlery this weekend to check out everyone's suggestions suggestions in person.

Thanks again, I'll let you know what I end up buying!

Very good. I'll be interested to hear what you end up getting. But honestly, you'll be hard-pressed to do much better than your Small Sebenza. And don't forget, happiness isn't having what you want. It's wanting what you have. ;)

Have fun! :D

Moki and Mcusta are worth looking at...

Good luck, OP! :)

I carry my mammoth ivory Indian River Jack at church and whenever I am in a suit. I really love it and it makes a nice conversation piece. if you like traditionals, it sounds like they would probably fit your offices intent.

Any of Spyderco's versions of the Sage are the ideal office carry size. Slightly smaller, but offering even more options, if you can find them, are the Spyderco Kopa's. I carry my Gold Lip Pearl Kopa at work where the limit is 2.5" With your high $$$ limit, I'm sure you could find almost any of the Kopa's and be able to afford it.

I also carry one of a few GEC folders, or a Case/Bose Lanny's Clip. Some of which exceed the 2.5" limit, but will not raise an eyebrow.

Maybe a Northwoods knife. Not my type of knife but they are definitely classy and non-threatening looking in my opinion

The Micras or SAKs are also great ideas.

I would definitely, 100% never, ever ask your HR folks for their opinion. That would probably not go well, as they are there to protect the company--not you. Asking for a ruling on a "weapons" policy would send most HR folks into a huge tizzy. Don't go there.

Good luck with your selection!

Weapon is weapon regardless of length or type. Have you thought of concealing it? Get a mad blacksmith penlanyard

Weapon is weapon regardless of length or type.

The accuracy of that statement depends what state you're in. For example, here in Michigan, a knife is only deemed to be a weapon if the blade is over 3 inches. Three inches and under = not a weapon.

In any case, my policy about such company policies is Conscientious Objection. Not only do I carry whatever knife I decide for myself is appropriate (and/or necessary), I also carry a concealed pistol every day. They can stick their policy up their you-know-what for all I care. YMMV.

And companies can fire people for breaking the rules.

If you feel that strongly about it you should probably seek other employment instead of deceiving your employer.

Regarding employers and company policies, I have a bit of mixed feelings about it. I carry a folder to work (don't take it out of the backpack though). On the one hand, it is prohibited to carry knives into the office. On the other hand, I assume that the security staff at least suspect that birthday cakes, pirogs, and a plethora of other foodstuffs do not cut themselves :) seriously, when you have kitchen knives laying around quite openly, I don't see a reason not to carry a folder.

Technically (and legally) speaking, I'm an independent contractor, not an "employee." I have many clients that I serve, and I regularly visit their respective offices and properties. Some know that I carry, and some don't - but only because they never asked. If they were to ask, I'd tell them I'm packing, so there's no deception here at all. If they don't like it, that's fine, but I'm still carrying whatever I deem appropriate. If they forbid it, I do not comply, and they can go find new representation. And that's fine, too - I will find other work and clients as I always do.

It's called having a set of fundamental priorities and unwavering principals - it's what started this country, and it's what is going to save it from the tyrants and totalitarians that are everywhere in our society. I DO NOT COMPLY with irrational, illogical, immoral, unjust, arbitrary, nonsensical, invalid, or possibly unconstitutional orders, rules, regulations, ordinances, statutes, whatever. I have had enough...

Sorry... didn't mean to go on a rant, but I can't keep it in any longer. What the hell happened to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?!

I work in an environment similar to yours in terms of its restrictiveness and I carry my Small CF Sebenza all the time. Take the clip off, stick it in your pocket, use it discretely and you should be good to go.

Yep, I do this with my insingo and noones bats an eye when I cut up my bagel in the morning.
