I'm a pretty big fan of the original USMC Kabar knife but I often wished it had a little more heft up front and that the grind was higher. I never handled one of these but studying the pic I could see the higher grind and it appears that it might have a little more weight in the blade, expecially since it doesn't have the fullers. I haven't bought a knife in a long time so I decided to roll the dice and buy one without handling it.

Anybody have this knife, held it, tried it, etc?

Thanks,

I haven't held the leather handled one one but I have handled the one with the rubberized handle. It's not the greatest thing ever, the regular USMC is way better. But I'm biased, I don't really like tanto blades that much to begin with, they just look a little too Holywood martial artsy to me.

The rubber handle tanto has a different blade design. The one I'm asking about has a new blade shape/geometry and as far as I know is only available with leather handle. It's also heavier than the USMC Kabar. I should get mine in a few days and will compare then closely.

First thing I'm doing to it will be to hack off the top section of the guard, just like I did to my Kabar 20 years ago!

You're right, it is a different blade shape.

Still, I think I'm leaving that one alone, I like it even less than the black one.

I can't say I'm crazy about the blade shape either but I do like the size of these knives and I LOVE the handle. I've been using my old Kabar for at least 20 years and after owning many knives it's still my favorite camp knife. I like it enought to have a 2nd one and for a minimalist like me that's saying something!
