New Kershaw Camp chopper 1077-Anyone else excited about this one?

Well, I finally got my 1077 yesterday! First impressions are, it's bigger than I had imagined (yeah, I know, the dimensions were published long ago, but that's not the same as holding it in your hand) The edge is good. Not razor sharp, but a good working edge. The handle feels good, The sheath leaves something to be desired. It doesn't "grip the blade, so, if it isn't strapped in at all times, the knife could easily fall out. The3 sheath can be carried at two levels, either too high and too low for my taste, but I can easily fix that. The blade itself isn't as thick as I would have preferred (about 1/ inch) but it isn't as thin as a machete, either, About 3/16 inch, a fairly good compromise.

I haven't cut anything with it yet, but I'll get to it this weekend.

So far, I have to say that it was worth the wait, and the price makes it a good working tool, not just something to store away and keep "nice,"

I've been drooling over a lot of these bigger choppers, but have a hard time justifying the purchase to myself, since I don't do any camping anymore. Must be getting old :(

I spent enough time talking about this knife that a friend went ahead and bought it for me as a gift. I've taken it camping twice now and I've got to say really I love this chopper. It came with a respectable edge and a few passes on the bench brought it as close to a razor edge as I really want on something I plan to chop hard wood with. For clearing, chopping, and splitting kindling, this blade is perfect and the kukri design gives it exactly the right heft for an easy swing. Would I prefer an American made blade? Absolutely, and most of my other knives are. Can you get a comparable chopper made in the US for less than 3x the price? Nope. Hopefully that will change soon. I don't mind paying a bit more for American steel, but in the meantime I'm really enjoying this one.
