New Kershaw Cryo G-10

slg98, I've got to ask, what kind of phone do you have? Those pics look pretty darn good to me! I've got both a Cryo I and Cryo II and I definitely prefer the larger II. Tough solid knife, and a great pricepoint.

I've had the Cryo and thought it was cool but it was just a little small. The Cryo 2 on the other hand... I still have and won't get rid of :D I can't wait till they come out with the Cryo 2 G-10

Got my G10 version in the mail today from BladeHQ. Very nice, and I agree that a Cryo 2 version would be much nicer. I really wish they'd add a detent so that it could be deassisted though. I really just don't like assisted knives.

Well I got mine a few days ago. I have been carrying and using it, and I am pleasantly surprised. I have other off shore kershaws that were gifted to me, but after this it may of changed my perception of them for the better.

Here's mine..

I don't know what it is... But I just really dig this knife. IMO its a lot of knife for $35 if you don't mind sharpening a bit more often. The 8CR takes a razor sharp edge in no time at all anyways.

Nice pic celtic! I agree, the Cryo is a nice solid little folder and better yet, it's not a high priced one I have to worry about. I'm gonna check my local knife store to see if they have any in stock.
Can anyone comment on the rust resistance to this non-coated blade?

Anybody know if it's possible/practical to replace and/or remove the coating from the thumb studs? I dig this knife but the more I look at it, black thumb studs really turn me off for some reason. It's silly and purely aesthetic, but still.

I kind of agree, I think the unpainted thumb stud would probably look a bit better. Maybe some paint thinner or turpentine applied with a Q-Tip?

Of this particular knife, no. However I have a few of the kershaws with 8cr13mov and in Ohio I have had no issues with rust or corrosion. Granted they don't get carried daily.

I know the thumbstuds are remove able though I'm not sure how you'd go about doing it without chewing them up. Not sure what the coating is but they look identical to the studs on my Kershaw select fire. If you can find stud you like maybe you can get Kershaw to send you some?

Made in China kind of rubs me wrong for the price they get.

I felt the same way at one point, but the fact is, Kershaw is absolutely knocking these imported knives out of the park. I've bought a few of Kershaw's Chinese knives now, due to either design or features, and have been more than happy with fit and finish at the price points those knives were purchased at. I understand that your mileage may vary.

Are they threaded into each other or is it a pressure fit?

I wish they had made the Cryo with G10 scales on both sides. I don't like
framelocks; IMHO, they are too hard to close as you tend to put pressure
on the frame lock when closing it. I'll stick with my Oso-sweet and Volt II.
Both a made in China for Keshaw, but I've no problems with the design, fit or finish
and they take and hold a terrific edge. If you like a smaller knife, try the
Kershaw Drone - great knife. All mine are plain blade (I don't like serrated
blades; if I need a saw, I'll get a saw

Cool thanks. After thinking about it it should be fine. I had the Skyline with its Sandvik 14C28N blade in my head and have experienced light rust pitting on the blade from just moisture from my hand from carrying. Not familiar with the Sandvik steel really so not sure how similar it is to the 8cr13mov. That and the fact that the blade was coated on the original Cryo just had me wondering.
Cheers, and enjoy your knife!

My volt 2 had the same blade steel. Someone said that it would rust, so I wanted to see. I stood it in a jar of vinegar for over an hour, no discoloration at all. I'm not saying you can't corrode it. But it is not likely unless you try pretty hard, I think.
