Hello Guys,
I am 14 years old and have great interests in Knives, along with many other things. (No, I'm not the thug type) I decided to join bladeforums to learn more about this hobby (I hope I won't get flamed for my age)

Let's see 14 years old, from Brooklyn and claims not to be a thug....yeah right...wat's the odds of that? :D

GarageBoy, if anyone here gives ya a hard time...just leave them to me.

Welcome to the Blade Forums GarageBoy!! Age has less of a barring than how you conduct yourself. There is allot to learn here and you have chosen a noble hobby to take interest in. I am sure you will enjoy your stay here. :)

Actually, I'm 14 also...started this hobby 2 years ago, and joined BladeForums shortly thereafter. (I used to be nuke585). When for reasons unknown by me my acount was cancelled, I stopped with the knives, until I started this acount. This place is great for info and inspiration. Welcome to the forums.:D

Welcome to the forums. If you got a question, someone around here is bound to have an answer.:)

You won't get flamed for your age. You might get flamed for your behavior, but that's a different matter.

If you participate in a constructive way, everyone will be very happy to help you and you'll find a good online community of friends here. We have many other 14 and younger members who do so.

Young people are great with their energy and their creativity. I'm glad to have you and hope to see you 'round the forums.

I'm serious, I'm not a thug, I got robbed 3x (sadly, by people smaller than me armed with unknown weapons) Thanks for the welcome!

There are 14 year olds, then there are 14 year olds. You seem to be a repsectful young man. As long as you continue on this way in the future, I doubt you will get flamed, but if you do, don't forget, leave them to PhilL.

You lucky devil, you! I wish BladeForums was around when I was 14! But wait! Computers weren't around when I was 14!:D :D Have a great stay here on B.F.'s; it's real informative, friendly & sometimes, down right weird!

Welcome. When I was 14 I did have a computer. Sort of it was a commadore 64 and it hooked up to a little bitty B&W TV

Pleased to have you here. Don't worry about your age, in my experience here people don't care how old you are, since they really can't tell except by your behavior. I started posting here when I was 15, no one ever gave me any grief because I didn't give them a reason to. So relax, you're in good company. :) You picked a gooplace to learn too, I've learned more than I would have thought possible from this place in the last 4 years.

Welcome to the forums! First of all, I wouldn't worry much about your age. I think most of us here were introduced to blades much younger than you are. I had my first knife at 7. I played mumbledypeg and stretch, whittled, carved practice knives out of wood (before they were in style - man, what a great memory!) and even roughly carved pinewood derby cars for cub scouts with my knife. In these days, something like that would never fly.

If you conduct yourself with maturity, I don't think anyone here will give you any problems. (no matter what your age)

welcome i've been lurking on here since i was 16 and now i'm hooked i own way to many expensive knives now.

YES!!!!!!!!

im finally older than someone :D :D

oops, forgot to add, welcome to the forums buddy!!!

Welcome to BFC. I don't ever view age as a problem. Maturity and how one conducts themselves is more to the point. We've got some "childish" 30 year olds and some "old" teens on BFC, so don't worry.

Hey your older than me, not by much though lol,

Back on topic, hey don't worry, just behave, treat your knives well, and you’ll do fine ;)

Thanks!

Well, I just looked up the NYC laws and it says I can't own a knife legally until I'm 16 :( It's going to be 2 VERY long years

I'm not gonna suggest that you break the law, but there's an old saying, "Everything is legal as long as you don't get caught". There is no reason you shouldn't own a knife, if your parents approve, if you always keep in mind that's it's a tool and not a weapon and you don't go around flashing it just to showoff.

Another alternative is to join the Scouts, they will make it pretty easy to explain why you need a knife. A Scout knife or a SAK are both good carry knives that most sheeple won't freak over if they see you carrying it.

Of course if you really don't feel comfortable with carrying a knife until you're legal, then think of the next two years as a time to increase your knowledge of knives and a chance to save your money to buy the best knife you can for your 16TH Birthday.
