I'm not around here a lot these days, but I just finished up a new kitchen knife as a custom order and the new owner asked that I post a pic.

This design follows the form I use a lot in kitchen knives, but the knife itself is new. Blade is intended as a slicer, and is 6" long and thin. Ladder damascus, full-integral, with carbon fiber scales and stainless bolts. First time for carbon fiber, and while a lot of guys used this a bit back in the day and now moved on, it seems very at home with damascus. Has a ton of movement which goes nicely with the damascus.

Beautiful. And synthetic handle material really makes sense in a kitchen application.

Dude, that is exquisite. Tomatoes will be fighting over each other to see who gets to be sliced first!

WOW!! now that is a kitchen knife. Not sure I'd want to apply it to a tomato but it would be neat if the owner would post images of this act and the result.

Nice to see tomatoes mentioned as I originally intended this to be a tomato knife/general utility slicer. And when i say intended, I mean that I told Burt "how about a 6 inch slicer that would be good for tomatoes" and he took it from there. Tomatoes are some of the most difficult things to cut on the planet earth and my previous experience with Burt's knives in my kitchen tell me that this will do great.

I will post picture and comments when it is in-hand. In fact, I'll post a trio of Burt's knives that I use in the kitchen. This one will absolutely be used on a regular basis. Custom knives in the kitchen are great way to enjoy the experience of how blade geometry, materials, sharpening technique, and of course design come together.

And carbon fiber and damascus are a lovely combination IMHO. I thank Burt for giving it a whirl and hitting it out of the park. Also note how the integral bolsters and leave no spaces for water to hide when you are cleaning up.

I'm new to the BladeForums and this is my first post. Beautiful knife and the photography excellent. I like the idea of synthetic material for Kitchen knives.
What lighting did you use in the photography???

Burt, is this a pattern that you will make more of ? It would be a nice compliment to my Foster Santuko which i use daily.

I use cheap photo floods through a diffuser with a bounce in front. Very basic.

roland, yeah I'm sure I'll be making more. This would definitely be part of the perfect 3-knife set: 10" carver, 6" santoku, 5-6" carver (like this one)

Great looking knife, Burt....very well designed and looks like it would be a pleasure to hold.

Best Regards,

I really can't imagine liking tomatoes anymore then I already do but ..... if I was slicing them with that beauty, wow. That one would keep me in the kitchen.
