New KLO from Shane Justice - nice!

Do a search on the Ken Onion Kukri - simple guard built into the handle - looks good without being too "bowie-ish". In fact, that's quite similar to what I do on many knife handles. Just swells up enough at the ferrule that I don't need a guard.

more ideas...maybe instead of just a guard, how about a titled/angled guard - like you see on some fancy sub-hilt fighters. That would be nifty. I'll try to find some pics if you're interested.

Dan, I see where you are going. One of the tilted guards like on the old Moran ST24...only a bit more subduued.

I'll doodle sopme line drawings and e-mail them to you. Tell me if it's what you had in mind.

Shane
P.S. Pics alway good.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this earlier, that's a beautiful blade shane! I didn't realize you were a bladesmith, I imagine that only gives you a greater appreciation of HI khuks, knowing what it takes to make such a piece. Good luck with the ABS contest, let us know how it goes.

Yeah I'm a bladesmith...for what it's worth...stay tuned for more pics and stuff as this blade develops.
Dan I upgraded my membership so I can post pics...if I can figure it out.

I do the third hardening cycle tonight. It all worked out during the full moon cycle...pretty cool wonder if it will help?

I think you'll find this is where the HI Forum and the ShopTalk forum differ greatly...we're believers over here!

We'll soak up just about anything...:D

Here's the Khukuri that Ken Onion made. (only for himself - selfish lil' guy...:D)

I think a guard on a khukuri strips it of its glory and you might as well call it a Recurve Bowie.

Ken's khukuri gets about as close as I'd ever go to a guard on a khukuri.

I know when you look at this, Shane, that you will not like the point part of the blade (near the handle) but think of it without it - that is, a smooth line going straight into the handle from the belly - now that's a nice recurve KLO.

That KLO is gorgeous...speaking from a KenOnion fan.
I'll bet I could afford the lanyard...:D

I finished the hardening cycles on this KLO on the night of the full moon. It all went really well. The blade is now differentially hardened. My best files just skid over it without leaving a mark...tempering next...then final grind and polish...
