new knife, budget around $200

I just got paid working a weekend job, and I've been ITCHING to get a new knife for a while.

I only own a black plain edge Kershaw Blur, and I love it, with its very functional blade shape and good steel. I've been considering carrying two blades at once, one for hard use/lending to friends, and other for not-as-hard use. The Blur will probably become my hard use knife.

I've been looking at the Emerson CQC-13, but was wondering what other choices i got. Love the bowie shape, but blade geometry/shape isn't THAT important, I just want a badass looking, functional, dependable knife. I'm looking for a plain edge, satin color blade. I have just about $200 to spend, the Emerson CQC-13 being about $170-180. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

the new spyderco manix 2 looks pretty sweet....and much cheaper!

Sage 2 (ti frame lock with an s30v blade for about the same as the emerson)
Ti military (ya so you wont be able to get it tomorrow but they’re taking pre-orders well in your price range)

my personal favorites that are 200 or less and satin bladed;

al mar: sere 2000, mini sere
benchmade: 520, 525, 610, 615, 630, 707, 710, 913, 940, 943
bradley: alias I, allias II
emerson: mini commander, commander, cqc-11
kershaw: s60v blur, s30v blur (I know you got one but I dont want to get disappeared by the kershaw mafia)
sog: stingray (also bowie clipe)
spyderco: military, paramilitary, police 3 g10

Im just throwing that stuff out there. really my favorite folders under 200 dollars that I think match up with what you are looking for are the benchmade 710 and the spyderco military.

For the $200.00USD category:

The easiest choice is the Benchmade 610 Rukus Plain edge Satin finish

Reliable and strong Axis lock
Badass and practical 4.5" s30v drop point blade
Extremely fast opening (get'm while you can!)
low riding clip

Even though I do favor other more high-priced high-end knives (crk, strider, darrelralph, etc), the Rukus is easily able to run up there as among the top production blade edc choices!:thumbup:

 NO NO NO.

unless it's a friend who, normally, has a knife but forgot it, that's one thing. if it's a friend who doesn't carry a knife, this RARELY goes well.

sorry to get off subject, with nothing to offer towards your original question, but saw this phrase and just wanted to let ya know - it's normally a BAD idea.

knives are like toothbrushes: i'm not using someonelse's and they're not using mine :)

S90V millie if you can find one
ZT 300 series
BM760, coated blade but too good not to mention
BM mini-rukus, as said b4 one good knife

If you like the Emerson, get the Emerson. :)
If I had $200 I would pick up a Emerson Super 8; but that is me.

Kershaw JYD Ti Sg2 is a great design, I love mine. It's very smooth and has a great blade shape.
Or... You could buy a ZT350KW, like what PG posted pics of a few days ago, exclusive to knifeworks but I think it's a satin blade.
EDIT: Changed to ZT350 instead of ZT300, my bad.

Consider a ZT300 or if you can find a framelock Kershaw Tyrade they are excellent knives......

Good luck with your hunt....be sure to post picks of the winner:)

Spyderco Stretch 2 Carbon Fiber is about $212 on Knifecenter, and they just released a VG-10 steel model with an FRN handle and it is about $83.

I'd get a Military or Paramilitary and save some bucks but take a look at the Spyderco Stretch II CF in ZDP-189 ;) Super nice knife for a good amount under $200

*EDIT* Of all things, the poster above me said the same thing and I didn't read it first ;)

I got mine for around $170ish about a year ago though.

Spyderco Stretch 2 or Superhawk are personal favorites. Also, getting a Spyderco Barong and then shipping it to Tom Krein for a regrind would put you right at $200 and give you a tremendous knife. A Spyderco Military is also a great knife. Or, get a Stretch 2 FRN and a Manix 2 and you will be left with 2 great knives, 1 for tremendous slicing and the other for super HD work and you would still have change from your $200.

I'd get 2 knives: a Spyderco Military and a G10 Kershaw Tyrade. Or, better yet, get a Himalayan Imports Kukri (I lovy my Gelbu Special. certainly badass lookin' but I don't think a mirror finish qualifies as a satin color blade) and one of the above knives, or a spyderco that meets your budget.

I'd be looking for a Benchmade full size Skirmish. They pop up every once in awhile, but I always miss them.

You could also wait and save up and get a Strider SNG. Worth every penny albeit expensive.

get a spyderco manix2 and a kershaw g10 tyrade. both will still run you under $200.
