new knife, budget around $200

If I were you I would try and get a Kershaw Junkyard Dog II with SG2 blade and titanium handles. It is a great deal for a Ti frame lock, it can be found for around $150 last I checked. Also they are a discontinued model so the longer you wait the harder it will be to find.

On second thought, I very much agree with one of the previous posters, the absolute best thing to do is to save up for a very high-end knife (not that the rukus and several other knives mentioned here are not high quality themselves). BUT you will never ever regret having saved up for the best. (and it'll save u lots of money in the long run)

I still highly recommend the very nice bm 610 rukus, but you will sooner or later wonder about the darrel ralph customs, crks, striders, other customs and customs... and then you'll sell all your "lesser" production knives. (although other collectors do see this as a fun journey, but in my humble opinion if I could do it all over again with all that I know now, I would just go straight to the customs and absolute top-tier high-end production only. but that's just me.)

I just got a second hand Rukus, and if you are looking for a massive, beast of a folder with excellent factory edge geometry this would be a good choice. Mine has a factory edge only .017" thick at 12 degrees per side, so it will really cut in spit of it's huge size. I still prefer the Spydercos I mentioned earliier, but for a super tough, very large, well built folder that can cut the Rukus is an excellent choice.

Kershaw Ti Tyrade (may be right at the top of your budget)
Benchmade 630 Full-size Skirmish
Protech Auto (switchblade) if you are able (TR3, Brend, Godfather/son)

Or just get a Benchmade 710 and a G-10 Kershaw Tyrade.

If you like the recurve of the Blur, check out the Zero Tolerance ZT0300 series. It is currently my favorite folder.

If you are looking for a pretty knife with a sleek blade that will hold up to abuse go with a bm 960. Greatknife and the D2 is great steel not to mention that sucker is faster than an automatic and it is fully manual. If you are looking for a big ol monster folder that you can't hurt the ZT line will not fail you. That being said if you can wait and save a little take a look at Chris Reeves stuff there is a reason that so many of us have and use (and abuse) the sebenza great knife.

Just my $0.02

These are great knives, even if they are still very new to me! The BM 635BK was a gift from my wife - and then I found the full sized BM 630 - they are getting harder to find now. To be honest, I'd probably be happy as a lark with just the mini-Skirmish... the full size, like everyone warned me, is big!

I don't know how 'set' you are on a single knife, but judicious shopping would land you a Benchmade 710 and a Kershaw 1670S30V Blur - two, perhaps new to you, great blade steels - D2 and S30V. If you really like D2, consider a Kershaw 1725CB JYDII wiith the CPMD2 edge. Lots of choices!

pardon the double-post, but just providing an update...

Because you guys are so awesome and know how to hit my soft spot with knife suggestions, I just ordered an Emerson CQC-13 and a Kershaw Tyrade in Orange.
Possibly ordering a Kershaw JYD II Composite and Spyderco Military in Orange next week...We'll see about that.

Do I have to be a paying member to post pics? Cuz I'd love to get these up here...

once again, you guys are awesome!

I hope you're happy... my Skirmish pair aren't enough - now I want another one! A new Rukus or that 760 Ti - hard to decide. I'm leaning towards the Rukus - awesome knife. Love the Ti/S30V pairing of the Skirmish - not sure about that CPM M4. The Rukus may just win.

Knife-gluttony - no known cure.
