I think its a fantastic idea. I'm going to do much the same myself for the same reasons. When do I get to get in the shop anymore? Its been stressful lately on the knifemaking front.
Bill, the concept is not a bad one. The idea of making an economic model by supplying a less time consumming finish and not supplying a sheath sounds sensible. As to rather or not you could get the $200 price range, I can only say "try it and see." Keep in mind, any buyer is going to have to add that sheath that you did not supply. Add that cost to your product and then judge your knife against others (factory and custom) in that price range.
I agree. Maybe with the net the market is so good people can afford it, but here on the forum I see more and more people making or getting into making knives but the competition seems to not bring the price down much
I do notice that anyone who is really reasonably priced like Drew always immediately sells anything he puts up so I'm hoping that there will be increased competition that will lower the price some as well as some ideas like Siegle is putting out here to keep costs down.
I just notice that locally I can go to a knife show or gun show and find a maker who will make me a knife for about half of what the same knife will go for on the net.
Well some good news. My wife has convinced me to offer sheaths for the Reality Check line. I think she doesn't want to make cardboard sheaths for shipping mostly So as of now sheaths are an option Makes sense I guess as they are intended to be users and you certainly can't carry em in a pocket.
