New knife - CS Master Hunter (Carbon V)

I've know I've posted this photo herer before, but here it is again... one of my old standbys, this was on my hip everyday for many years while working in the woods, it's a great knife, there's really not a bad thing I can say about it ...

This is one of my favorite knives. Wicked sharp with a great grind. If they made one with a non rubber handle, it would be a great candidate for a one knife senerio.

A lot of people on this forum whose opinion I respect a lot consider this one of the best hunting knives available, certainly one of the best that CS has ever made. I love mine.

Brilliant little knife and I believe one of their best. Borne of a time when bushcraft was zeitgeist of the future concerning thongs that hadn't been invented yet and not piddling about with softwood.

I have to hand it to you baldtaco - you always manage to get my attention. :D

Congrats ZombaiO on the new steel.

I used to own a Master Hunter in stainless and I never liked it, which was unfortunate because it was the epitome in design for me at one time, right down to the rubbery handle which was excellent for canoeing.

From all reports, though, the carbon version is excellent.

Enjoy!

Zombai0, congratulations on your cool new knife. I have had one loaded into electronic shopping carts more than once but always find something else to buy.

Mkrob, that picture of yours is always great to look at. It alone made me look for a Cold Steel Master Hunter.

The handle is actually very nice. It's a dense very firm rubber. Good grip, and no complaints about durability. Sure it doesn't look great, but it works.

It doesn't look great?!? I think it looks great. What do you want it to look like, a fantasy Bowie knife?

The handle and grip are one of the main reasons I like it. The blade is pure function. :D

Edit: Actually Munky, your comment is right on :D

As stated, this blade is all function. And you're lucky to find the Carbon V steel made by Camillus. That stuff won't be made again.

Dressed my first deer shot in TN with a CS Master Hunter. Thought I lost the knife after I got back home and started looking for it, but luckily, it turned back up under my truck seat. Durn elves.

As much as I've wanted to hate Cold Steel products, due to their obnoxious marketing, I have to admit they make great products for the money. If the Master Hunter handle were Resiprene C instead of Kraton, it would be a perfect knife.

I have to agree 100% with you. I wonder if you could find a maker to do that for you...

There used to be quite a few knifemakers who re-handled Trailmasters so I'm assuming they could do a Master Hunter.

Well aside from all their mall ninja garbage, Coldsteel sells a lot of interesting stuff at practical price. But I still hate their copyrights infringements and the ubiquitous made in China.

Yeah Master hunter is still a good knife. It only looks similar to a Fallkniven F1 till you get one in each hand. MH is much heavier.
That bluntening as you take it from the sheath might be a small wire edge! a good strop might fix that for you. ( a solid bench top, some cardboard and toothpaste if you don't have the proper tools) It ain't rocket surgery.

P.S. Watch the patina though. I tried it to even up some marks on my Cullodan and it is a mess. Could be me though

According to one overweight Goateed "Ninja"..pbuh :eek:you can baton through a Cummins diesel block with it.;)

LOL I have one too . Good piece.

Thanks for the comments dudes !

warrigal - The sheath dulls the blade even after stroping.
mckrob - Your knife is one of the Best looking I've ever seen.It has a character

I've used the Master Hunter quite a bit during the weekend.I've chopped small branches, made notches, split wood, prepared some meals and even collected a huge amount of birch bark from a fallen tree :) The knife is really awsome and I love it !!! It's one amazing field blade,I've never expected that I would like it so much
I've taken a lot of pictures, but will post them later.

Ok so here are the photos :) I hope that you'll like them

Here I'm doing some batonning on seasoned hardwood (around 3'' in diameter). The knife did good, but I was very careful with the baton because of the thin tip.

I'm sorry that some of the pictures are of bad quality, but at Saturday we didn't have electricity and I couldn't charge my camera's battery,so I've used my cell phone to take pictures...But the next day we had electricity and I've re-done most of the pictures with a digital camera :)
