My modest knife collection is now complete :)

Not sure if I'm allowed to mention the particular retailer I got it from.

It came with a thick layer of oil. I normally do two washes for blades like that but I only did one wash this time, to purposely leave a light residue.

I'm not a knife expert btw. Don't know anything about "uneven grinds" and what have you but the knife looks fine to my untrained eyes.

Congratulations on your new acquisition. Hope you enjoy it.

Doesn't matter where you bought it, but we only tag the vendors that support the site.

Yeah I recall reading some rules about mentioning the vendors, unfortunately I didn't remember the details so I figure I'd stay on the safe side and just not mention them

We'll move this over to the Cold Steel area so the experts can chime in on your new purchase and give you any necessary tips.

I think the uneven grind issue was fixed.

It was real and for a while every review from a buyer on large CS knives in 3V reported this, and the problems were so bad it was easy to see in pics people posted.

Last year they improved and once reports of good grinds started I waited a little while then bought one and mine had good grinds, so I think the issue is fixed.

The snap fit mechanism in the secure ex sheath is loose, although the knife is secure and will not fall out from the sheath even if held upside down and shaken. I thought two rounds from my power drill on each screw would tighten it but it didn't...oh well, easy retrieval if a grizzly bear ever decides to charge me

Yes you're right, I remember now, it was ground too much near the bottom of the blade at the back. I just double checked and my main knife doesn't have that issue :D nor does my backup :)

I will admit though Joe X's destruction video surprised me. From the way they make the trailmaster 3v sound, I thought it would ace all his testing...but the other reviews were good enough that I decided to buy it anyway. And really, what other 3v options do I have for a blade this size?

Joe X's destruction
Big grain of salt for any of his tests and especially for post GSM Cold Steel products , for which Joe X has special feelings .

Joe does stuff , that there is just no functional reason to subject a knife to , even in an extreme survival emergency .

I believe there is value to those tests , but only if you understand what they mean .

joex isn't hard to figure out. if he beats, pries etc it to death and if it doesnt break...he beats, pries etc it harder til it breaks. his only goal is to break the tool. he does anything an everything to make sure it breaks. thats all there is to it. the only data to get from it is eventually the tool will break. this is all there is to his videos besides the fun of watching him trying to break it.......

A Carbon V Trailmaster was my first knife that cost me over $100. It was back in 2003 or so. The handle has rotted away, but I have the blade somewhere and plan on setting in a piece of antler someday...only been on the to-do list for about 10 years 😂

Congrats on that knife. I have put it in and out of my shopping cart more than half a dozen times. Mostly because I'm not into carrying big knives anymore. I have become a weight sissy when it comes to hiking. Still, there is a good chance I'll end up with one sooner or later 😊

JoeX is confounding to me. I get the idea of what he does, and it is entertaining watching him get winded trying to kill a knife. His tip tests make me cringe though. Hammering a voyager 3" into a stump log and leaning your 160 lb body on it as hard as you can causes it to break?...shocker🙄 It is interesting to see how much abuse the locks can take. After his multiple destruction tests on the Triad lock, it's become my go-to lock on knives where I simply WILL NOT risk a failure (and my fingers).
