Just got in a Medford 187 dpt and its freakin awesome! I'm astonished by how smooth the lockup is. I can open it as slowly as I want and there is absolutely no blade play at all! This knife locks up like a vault. I haven't had a whole lot of high end production knives but I'm sold on Medford right now!

In other news my Strider SMF has been having blade play issues and has just developed some seemingly incurable lock rock as of today...

That Medford looks awesome!!! And the Vulcan blade turned out amazing.... Blade centering damn near perfect. Congrats. Greg makes a great knife. I love mine.

Thanks! I've been wanting this exact knife for what seems like forever. Money is tight these days but I'm glad I pulled the trigger! It's hard to explain the quality difference if you've never held one but it's there in spades!

Would love to get my hands on a praetorian. I'm into the overbuilt, huge knife thing. Must be compensating for something...

Praetorians are nice too. Dont overlook the TFF-1... My personal favorite. :)

OK man, if this is a 'contest' I am in it to win it....... I believe this puts me in +1.....

BTW, congrats to the OP. Really like the vulcan finish, and I am really looking at the 187F

Yeah, if I'm going to pay that kind of price, I'd prefer there be things like fit and finish and functional design involved.

This whole Medford thing is like Strider all over again. I hope, at least, that Greg Medford is exploiting legitimate military service to get sales.

Regardless, it amuses me that all you need to do is cite a service background and say "'Merica" a few times to get people to pay a mortgage payment for a poorly finished folding spatula.

No need to knock what others like just because it isn't for you.

Glad you like your knife OP!

Vulcan is a post blade finish, oxidization option offered by Greg.

It's not. He simply heat treats the knife, then calls it a day...

I just watched a video where Greg describes this process. It seems misleading to offer it as a "special finish". It's not, it's just cutting corners. If it appeals to you, I'm ok with that. I just feel that it should be described better.

Fantastic. I'd love to get my hands on a Praetorian at some point. I'm very happy with the 187 though!

To each their own I guess. Doesn't sound like Medford is your cup of tea and that's cool. I really like the product line for the most part and think the fit and finish on mine is superb. Maybe ymmv. It kinda sucks you feel the need to crap on my parade but I'm excited none the less. Hope you have a great week!

That's a fair statement. I personally like it. Wasn't expecting it to be a special finish I guess as more of "a different flavor". Thanks for clearing up any confusion and it's always interesting to hear some info on how guys go about putting knives together!

I don't state my opinion to "crap on your parade". I just happen to be a knife lover that believes in quality reflecting cost, not politics and BS.

I mean nothing against buyers that like to buy knives based on ideas and aesthetics instead of actual function and quality. "Tactical/Military" knife buyers are living in their own genre of fantasy knives, at this point.

It is what it is.

Politics??? Let's just let the guy enjoy his knife.

I don't like Medfords designs, but that says nothing about fit and finish. I've heard it's great.

Ok. I appreciate your ethos man. I feel the same way. You're just stating a lot of opinions as facts and that comes off a little condescending especially when you're making suppositions about why I spent the little money I have on what I did. Didn't want this to be a negative thread. Not saying people can't have different opinions or disagree with how I spent my money. I'd just prefer for them not to state that my knife is a "poorly finished folding spatula". That seems a little less of an objective viewpoint and more along the "crapping on a parade" mentality. Sorry if I misunderstood.
