New Knife Day

I don't state my opinion to "crap on your parade". I just happen to be a knife lover that believes in quality reflecting cost, not politics and BS.

I mean nothing against buyers that like to buy knives based on ideas and aesthetics instead of actual function and quality. "Tactical/Military" knife buyers are living in their own genre of fantasy knives, at this point.

It is what it is.

Uncool.

Yeah uncool. Some people don't know how to say "well it's not for me, but happy you like it"
High road is good but I call spades. Your condescending attitude makes you come off as a jerk.

Fit and finish certainly looks top notch, but I'll find out for sure when my Praetorian Micro T arrives.

Yeah, if I'm going to pay that kind of price, I'd prefer there be things like fit and finish and functional design involved.

This whole Medford thing is like Strider all over again. I hope, at least, that Greg Medford is exploiting legitimate military service to get sales.

Regardless, it amuses me that all you need to do is cite a service background and say "'Merica" a few times to get people to pay a mortgage payment for a poorly finished folding spatula.

There is so much incorrect BS in that post I wouldn't know where to begin.

I guess we all have opinions, but maybe when they're that pointless and baseless, maybe we should just keep it to ourselves.

Anyway, nice to see that new lows can still be reached.....

Argue with me with real counterpoints, then.

I believe that Medford is everything wrong with this industry.

At this price point, I believe that there should be a standard for fit and finish. I can look at the pics in the original post and see finish quality lower than knives that cost 30 bucks that are made in China.

I believe that a person buying knives at this price point should be an expert. Throwing down half a grand on a knife effects the market and what is acceptable to sell in that range. Knives should be made with cutting in mind. Medford knives have very poor blade geometry. That is insulting to the intelligence of knife enthusiasts. Would a gun lover pay top range prices for a gun that has poor shooting performance? This is the kind of nonsense that turns knives to pocket accessories and not tools.

I believe that a person should buy a knife based on performance and the reputation of the manufacturer, not how "tactical" the knife looks and how military it is. I hated Strider for this, and I hate Medford even more. These knives are snake oil.

The giant rant about how you have to maintenance your knife exactly how Medford says is another flag. I can take apart my Sebenza 100 times and lube it with whatever I want, and it will still go back together every time perfect with no blade play and consistent performance. That is what premium prices should get you.

If you are paying over $400 for a knife with bad blade geometry, walk-on-eggshells construction, garbage finish and no worthy reputation just because it's trendy, tactical-looking and expensive, then you will get no quarter from me. You are exactly the people that are ruining high-end knives.

Go ahead and tell me how wrong I am. I can't wait.

What's funny is that on cars we pay a premium to get good engineering and good warrent so that we don't have to work on it. I have crk and now i have payed a premium to take it apart...why would I pay more to take it apart?

How to maintain my Medford (which I also own)...what maintenance? Just don't take the dam thing apart and it's all under warranty. I'm sure I can find something to do with my time other taking apart knives.

If I'm the problem with knives I'm sure happy I'm being catered to.

I will tell you how wrong you are. You have exactly ZERO right what's so ever to tell people how to spend and enjoy their money. You run rough shod over this thread and others projecting your opinion as fact, when it is clear your just like so many other bitter, miserable, ineffectual people that can't stand if other people might have differing opinions from your own. And you claim that THEY are the ones ruining the high end knife business. That's laughable at best.

Super nice knife op be proud of it and enjoy it. Don't let that jerk who thinks your knife and buying is whats wrong with the knife industry he should look in the mirror jerk of all kinds are the ones who ruin things

Hey man I'm excited you finally got a knife you've really been wanting for a while and it's very different, very cool to see thanks for sharing! Knife making is an art and the way I see it there's no wrong way.

Thanks guys. Sorry this turned negative. I was just excited about my new knife.

We're all excited about our new knives; there's nothing to be sorry about.

Heck, as much as I dislike aggressively-overbuilt designs, I sure wouldn't mind handling some. I always thought Medford, Direware, and some others look like "too much knife" for me, but I've never handled them. Maybe a day with one in my hand would change my thoughts on that.

Until then, I'll stick to the slimline knives I've been enjoying:)
