I am not a big fan of the MOD knives. Not that they aren't good knives, I have just never liked the way they look. In the new STT-685, MOD has finally made a knife that I really like the look of. It is not yet available, but should be in the next couple of months. There are supposed to be three available blade styles, but they don't say what they are. The only pictures that I have seen so far are of a tanto.

Overall length: 6.85", Blade length: 2.75".

A larger 8.75" version called the LTT-875 will be coming soon as well. What do you think, S for small, L for large and the model numbers are the overall length of the knife?

May be the best looking knife MOD has made yet, I dont care for the blade style myself, but the overall look of it is nice. Will be interesting to see how well it is made...........

One
The brochure says the secondary blade, the cord/cuff cutter can be used for cutting flexcuffs... Mine cut one flexcuff, and the crossed edges were so warped by that one cuff that it no longer cut anything effectively.

Two, upon disassembly, I noticed that the factory had overzealously tightened one of the screws which stripped the screwholes of the threads... the screw was actually held in place by the loctite. The screws and threads that hold the handle together are way too small and delicate for their task.

All that for a $300 dollar knife...
I don't think I'll be buying anything that comes from these guys again.

The blade is very much like a microtech socom. I hope the price is reasonable on this new model. The design looks very nice.

This one looks great, is it going to be available with a different blade shape? Does anyone know about the materials used?

I got my CQD Dieter Mark II for $150! I know its the smaller one, but I'd have never paid $300 for it or its bigger brother. Mine has held up well. It still a little tight, but not too bad. I think its worth the $150 I paid.

MOD use 154-CM for their blades. They state in an add that I saw in Blade that this knife will be available with three blade styles. They show the knife only with a tanto style blade and do not mention what the others will be.

I like the looks of the handle. Put something besides a tanto, preferably a drop point recurve, and I'm there!

I really like the handle shape, and i could use a tanto, but spear points are my favourite, if it is chisel ground i will be most upset.

It looks like it might be a plunge lock, if it is i will certainly want one!

I had a CQD II from them once with quite a bit of top to bottom blade play. Called them up and started to explain my situation and barely got started before they told me to send it in, no return postage necessary.

Was barely a week later, if that long before I had a brand new one shipped back to me, tight as a drum, and perfect in every way, best customer service I've had with ANY knife company.

This new one is very nice looking! It does seem to have a stronger Microtech semblance than past designs have. (Can't remember where I heard Microtech HAS had a strong influence in MOD's start)

Or is that just me?

Looks like a chisel grind to me, judging from the strong features. I don't care for chisel grinds myself, but there are other things in a knife that I look for too.

I recently bought a Puma Scout which is chisel ground. If it had been symmetrically ground, then I think the blade would have to be at least 3/8" thick and heavy as a meat cleaver.

The only MOD I have is a Mark V. I normally dislike fantasy elements which this knife has in abundance but it was some sublime thing that drew me to it.

I wonder who the designer is, as prior offerings were usually by someone notable.

I have heard nothing but great comments on MOD service should it be needed. I have both the large MK1 and small MKII Dieter CQD knives and love'em both. Both rock solid and no play, razor sharp and with the gripping surfaces and side hilts no way would your hand slip forward on this knife onto the blade.

The plunge lock with an added lockout switch, takes my worries away of a blade closing on my hand. I guess they are hard on your pants if you use the pocket clip, but I just carry them in pockets unclipped, so never had a problem with abrasion of clothing. I cant say enough good things about them. I also like the auxiliary blade on the large Dieter and like the carbide glass breaker on both of them.

Their second generation of black coating is also holding up great. I trust these more than any of the other folders I own. I also have their MOD lady hawk and think its fit and finish are really nice as well. Its quite tiny which is what I wanted from it. The Scorpion neck knife also works for me in a variety of applications. I will say that the small CQD MKii gets most of the carry time. But love carrying the big one too in jeans.
Would not hesitate to look at or buy other knives they make.:)

This just in from MOD - there will be drop point and "fighter" versions available in 60-90 days after this version hits the streets.

Tell them that chisel grinding is not allowed.

Spark Do you know what the lock is going to be? Is it the MOD nested liner?

This knife looks like a Sog vision. The is a real nice knife with a arc-lock and it's half the price

blech!...:barf:

still don't like 'em

just my 0.02
