New knife from MOD.

Not sure were you heard $300.00 for this knife, this knife will retail for just over $100.00 from what I hear.Blade coated with Tungsten DLC by Bodycote.

Hello,

Looks to be an excellent piece of kit to me. Slightly reminiscent of the Microtech Kestrel (at least the handle is). I often wonder if there is not some collaboration between the two companies. The SOCOM looks a lot like the Dieter CQD MkII, and the finish, and materials are very similar.... perhaps it's just a good example of fashion/form/function?

I like MOD knives. I have several, but my favourite is the Trident. This knife is a seriously good bit of kit, very strong, and extremely well made. I have yet to mark it in any way, after a year of hard use.

Regards,

Doug

I like it alot! Right size, looks strong, and certainly the right price plus the fighter blade sounds cool. I'm definately there...

I wonder who the designer is, as prior offerings were usually by someone notable.

I've often wondered:

A. To what extent do the people who attach their names to MOD knives -- e.g. former-Seal Jim Watson, martial artist Graciela Casillas -- have input? Do they design the knives, or does MOD merely license their name.

B. If they do design the knives, are they qualified to be knife designers? It seems to me that designing well-crafted knives requires specialized knowledge and talent: part art and part science.

Just cynical ol' me raising a stink again. Take it with a grain of salt.

In reality, I think MOD makes some nice "eye candy" knives and I have come close to buying one on several occasions.

A sub three inch blade for truly "tactical" applications? Why are the always at least an inch short in making a good looking hard use "user"?

Mod does not tend to chisel grind their knives. This would be the first if they did. Also I like them a lot. I have the CQD MK 1 and Mkii, for the large I paid 220.00 thats a far cry from 300 dollars but your right that is the price for the auto or close to it. I have used the so called flex cuff cutter for nylon webbing and paracord, twine and string. Nice to have. Glass breaker is neat too. Mine have no play and came and remain razor sharp. The locks on the CQD are awesome. The plunge lock is one of the few I dont worry about closing on my hand. The others lock I dont worry about are on fixed blades. :-)
They are my favorite folders. The MK1 is big, but the the Mkii stealth is easy on the pocket. I also like the side hilts and gripping surface. You are not going to have your hands slip onto the blade with either of these tactical folders. I Look forward to the new tanto and hope the blade is sub 3 inch for restricted areas. My son is also looking for a sub 3 inch folder. Many areas restrict you to a sub 3 inch folder others do not. I need a good sub 3 knife. A delica will only take you so far. Right now for those areas I use the MOD Lady Hawk hawk bill.

Their site and ads say, "designed by professionals." I know who designed a lot of their knives, but who designed this one?

BTW. Another good goint about this piese -- no designer's bio on the blade. At least I think it is good.

I've got to have one. Great brand in my opinion, just some are a tad too expensive.

You're right. I was just looking over my Microtech Vector, Mini-Socom and my MOD Trident and Hornet and you could swear they were made by the same manufacturer. ;)

What I want to see is the MOD/Elishewitz collaboration. You can pre-order it at 1sks.com, but they don't have pictures yet.

There was some sort of MOD/Elishewitz OTF gravity knife pictured in a knife mag some time ago, but this is probably not what is on 1stop, since it is listed at only 130 bucks
