Ok...I've gone a little nuts. Got the knife fever and started buying knives. Nothing expensive. I'm a professional so I can't carry a big knife around in my suit pants. When I bought my first knife about 6 months ago didn't know much. Still don't pretend to know much, but I know what I like and I know what seems to be quality. Knife nuts are kinda like wine connoisseurs, some are stuffy, some are down to earth, and the best advice for both is buy what you like and if it works for you then it is fine. I have tended to buy mostly smaller knives, 3 inch handle or less. I rotate them and don't carry the same one every day...is this knife fever? Am I a knife nerd now?? Oh well. The wife keeps saying what's up with all these knives everywhere? I say what's up with all those purses...and she says no more.

I have bought the following:

First one: Gerber mini fast draw. This was my first knife. I've abused the heck out of it cutting anything that needed cutting. Boxes, plastic containers, rope, paper, whittling, etc. I have sharpened it several times and it seems to hold up pretty good. I know alot of knife people don't like gerber, but I'll tell you it has not been too bad for a little knife. It looks like crap because I've practiced sharpening on it and have scratched the crap out of the blade, but works fine. This knife is the easiest one to close one handed.

I have not attempted to sharpen any of my other knives. They haven't needed it and I will wait till I get a decent sharpening system.

#2 Gerber full size fast draw. I like the knife. It has a good weight. Doesn't seem cheaply made. It has a zytel handle and the blade is very sharp.

#3 Kershaw Grant County - This is a little typical style lockback. Love this knife. I use this one often. It came very sharp out of the box. I just like the old style lockback style.

#4 Kershaw Chive Miror polish stainless - This knife is just so cool. When I carry it I can't help but flick it open again and again. It's kinda classy I think and sharp as heck. Cut myself on it.....my fault sort of...but the finish is kinda slippery so be careful if you get this one. The speed safe opening on this thing is like lighting fast. The fastest out of all the assisted openers I have. Very tight and well built knife. Built like a little Porsche.

#5 and 6 Bought a couple of Spyderco ladybugs. One in zytel and one in stainless. They just look cool. Also very nice knives. I bought the stainless because it just felt sturdier, but the zytel one is no less sharp. I put that one on my key chain for the motorcycle.

#7. Sog Blink - Cool knife. They adversise it to be used as a money clip. I thought it was going to be a bit smaller but it's a good size for carry in my suit pants. Still tend not to use it though and use it on the weekends. One bad thing about it is that since it is a lockback with the release on the spine of the blade you can't close it one handed. The assisted opening mechanism works well.

#8. Kerhaw Scallion - This knife is the one I find myself carrying the most on weekends. I got the one in black zytel. It is just so well built, just like the chive. It has a good weight for its size. The knife is not too small nor too big.

#9. Kershaw Leek - The black one with black blade. This one came out of the box and the speed safe didn't work well on this one like on the other 2 kershaws with speed safe. The Blade Shop website said they'd send me another...let's see.

10. Sog Micro - Tiny little thing. Bought it because thought it would be cool to have another small knife. It is Made in China...don't waste your money. It is very cheaply made.

11. Sog Flash 1 - Not as well made as the kershaws I think. The release mechanism not too well thought out. I think I prefer the linear lock release of the kershaws and the Gerbers are better too. This Sog seems kinda cheaply made.

12. Victorinox Champ - This thing is amazing. If I was going into the wilderness I thought do I take this or the Leatherman Wave? The wave is also an amazing tool, however, I think for its versatility and the magnifying glass for starting a fire I'd take the champ. The Leatherman has pliers but don't think I'd need pliers like that in the wild. I go camping often, but don't do survivor stuff.

13. Victorinox Trekker - Don't know why I bought this knife. It is kinda big for daily carry...good to throw in your back pack if you go camping. It has a locking blade and a saw and a couple other little tools.

Wow..didn't realize I had accumulated so many until I wrote them all down. Out of all these knives...(I have to stop buying stuff). I say buy 2, one small and one larger. Make them Kershaws. They are just the best made knives for the money. The Gerbers come in 2nd in my book. If you have only one to buy get the kershaw scallion. It is very well made, sharp as hell, and can be closed one handed easily. This is the best all around knife I've found for the ones I've listed.

I wouldn't write SOG off just yet. I wasn't at all impressed by the Flash I played with for a bit once either. I have a Twitch though, and it's great. Quite solid feeling and seems well put together. Definitely very un-Flash like.

Enjoy the fever.

I surprised myself the other day when I counted 22 knives in my knife box... and I have two on the way, maybe more.

You're a knife nut, but it only gets worse :)

I loved my Blink too, great knife. And you can close it one handed. Push the lock down with one hand, and start pushing the blade into the handle by pushing it against your pant leg. Move your fingers out of the way and finish.

The blink is a nice knife...however, I consider a knife that you can close with one hand one that you don't have to use your leg or other body part to help you close it, just your hand.

Well, I am Newknifeguy...and you need a benchmade...oh yeah, and a spyderco or two or three. My opinion: HK14210 by Benchmade. I have bought hundreds of knives, from cheap to PRICEY, and this is the knife for me!
Good luck
