NEW knife: It's perfect!!! I don't want to use it :-(

A knife is a _tool_
An unused tool is a useless waste of money.

Use it. Scratch it up. Make some memories.... "That scratch on the side is from this great hike in the Olympic National Forest when we decided we needed to stop for lunch. After my son fell into that stream, I dropped the knife (since my hands were frozen after grabbing him) while getting the fire (in the backpacking stove) going so we could have some hot soup and s'mores on the trail to warm back up."
OR
"We were visiting the Custer State Park. We drove through the park and saw the donkeys and ta'tanka (buffalo), then stopped for a picnic lunch. The skies opened up, and my knife was the difference between being cold and having a fire under a tarp while we ate lunch. It stinks that my son dropped the knife and kicked it across the picnic area, but he got the fire going so we were warm. "

Use it or send it to me to make memories with.
Enjoy.

Use it. Once it's broken in, you won't care about keeping it pristine anymore, and it will have a new kind of beauty.

I only have users, but I always have that initial anxiety too. I make an effort to hit the woods for a day 24 hours after new knife purchase to give it a full days work out. It allows me to get used to the knife, value it as a tool, and get those initial scuffs out of the way so I don’t mind using it.

Like the majority have said, use it! It's a tool at the end of the day, meant to be used. I don't have half the collection of most posters on this site but have a few fairly expensive folders and they all get pocket time.

Back to the ZT, I love the look of the 0452cf but it's a bit large for my EDC. On the other hand, my 0450cf might be my favorite folder in my safe, and it doesn't see much time there as it's in my pocket a LOT. Enjoy using your new blade!

Ok here's what you do ...

1. empty your bank account
2. have a custom display case made
3. insert knife
4. now buy many knifes to fill case

because it's an illness if you buy one to not use they will multiply ... or grab it go out and cut eveything you can until its dull ... resharpen and take a deep breath and release ... it's not fatal ... it can be cured ...

but seriously I get it some knives are beautiful ... but most the enjoyment is in how they perform ... think you'll get there just hard to put that first sratch in something new ...

If you need to use it, then use it. If you have other knives to use use them instead. I have many knives I don't use, but I carry them hiking just to have something for just in case. Dedicated users are carried too. I wouldn't buy so many knives otherwise just to use. After all how many users does a person need? It might make no sense to have knives you don't cut with for daily tasks, but it also IMO makes little sense to have 50 users.

I thought my ZT collection was complete. But now after reading about so much love for the ZT 0452cf, I am considering getting one.
That blade is wicked long! Wow

Get a 452. Thats what I did and made the CF my Sunday knife. Lol

I like the rose gold, g10, 390 steel model even better.

Find something that will produce a fond memory. Something sentimental. When I received my new GEC Viper I hesitated as well. I bought my wife a dozen roses and trimmed the stems. It left a mild patina. It is no longer perfect but somehow better.

Now I think of my lovely wife when I carry it.

First they are not hard to find so replacement will never be a problem, second did you buy it to store as a safe Queen, if you did it,s not rare the one with the blue scale is. and now I will give you a mathematical equation
to help you to justify using it. If you turn it into a part of your rotation and don't abuse it the value it will lose is much less than buying another one. You can always get good money for ZT's.

This exact situation is why I have never bought nor do I intend to buy a new car. I have a ritual when I get a new used car, I put the fist key scratch on it myself.
Enjoy it and use it, it is a tool that gives us pleasure to carry it. Don't waste another minute and if you don't want to beat it up carry a second user so that you don't have to use it in rough situations. I always carry 3,
1 user PM2 S30V 1 nice one such as a ZT 0452 or Shaman and the third one is a small fixed blade such as the Bradford Guardian 3 and I am all set to go.

Please enjoy it, you will derive no pleasure from letting it sit in the house.

I have 2 of the 0452ti versions and a 0452cf version. I kept one 0452ti new for when they stop selling them, I have a back up. I waved the other 0452s. Love the blade to handle ratio, I reprofiled mine on the edge pro and it's a laser.

How did you wave your 0452?

Machined a wave out of stainless and carefully welded it on. If you look carefully you can see both the ti and cf in this pic.

That is just nuts. I never seen anything like that before. I wish my 0452 could have a wave. It would be so much more useful. Especially when carrying it in Brazil for self defense. I always take Emersons with me when I go there. Last time I was there for 3 1/2 months and you need a knife with a wave in a place like that.

I am leaving again in Feb .. so I am taking 4 Emrsons and 2 Spyderco salts (for the beach). Gotta leave my fancy flippers at home because w/o the wave feature is too much fumbling in a real situation where surprise is to strike first and do it quick.
