New Knife Recommendation UK

I need a new knife for use in the UK that will not get me in trouble with the police if carrying it.

I need something for cutting that can be carried everyday without drawing unwanted attention and I am currently considering one of the following.

Eickhorn PRT IV
SOG Flash II Rescue

both of these have the advantage of having blunt points but appear to be very suitable for cutting with both plain and serrated blade sections.

I would assume that these will be acceptable to our British police due to their blunt points and rescue use.

Are these knives considered good and are their any alternatives and would they likely be more acceptable than my current pointed liner lock knife.

any lock knife will get you in toruble with the police here, IF FOUND, the only acceptable knvies are slip joints and the best is probably the Sypdie one. Go to www.heinnie.com > knives > sypderco > UK pen knife. it's prob the best though it really depends on the police man's discrecion because he could technically still see it as a lock knife because of the choil not allowing the blade to close but then it is the proper UK pen knife designed by British Blade forum in conjunction with Sypdie. Law states that it has to have a sub 3 inch blade and not lock.

Annoying ain't it.

I really wanna carry my big 11 inch blade bowie about but I can't :D.

Spyderco designed one specifically tailored to British laws, called the UKPK (or UK Pen Knife). Apparently, the blades have to be 3" or less, and non-locking. So, that's what they made. It opens one-handed, just like any other Spyderco, is a perfect size for every-day carry & utility, has a very useful blade shape, and is made/backed by one of the best cutlery companies in the world. Check it out!

edit: pootsy beat me to it.

Surely the knife not having a sharp point will help although it has a sharp blade it is a rescue knife.

Anyway what stops the spyderco closing and cutting your fingers off?

It uses a backspring, just like a traditional slipjoint. It doesn't have a "lock," but the spring is plenty strong enough to keep the blade from closing on you, as long as you use the knife properly.
Rescue knife or not, if it has a lock you're a'gin the law.

yea
LOCK = LAW BREAKING
UNLESS, you are part of the rescus services are have a specific reason and a valid one for using a lock knife then you can bypass the law as you have a valid reason buty mostly a NEED for it. Otherwise has to be a sub 3 inch clip joint. I have the Spydie and it is a tough little boyo takes 20 lbs of pressure to close and it doesn't fully close unless you add a little bit more pressure. if you want somethying more elegant Moki do one too and so do Lone Wolf but the only Damascus one I know of is the Willim Henry Legacy whihc is avalable in three styles of blades but it is expensive. the Spydie is prob the best all rounder especially if your gonna be doing some toughish work because it's the cheapest out the three at 52 to 70 quid while the henry Legacy Damascus is bout 180 :D

the Spydie has a choil too which means it practically can't close on your fingers cos a finger along with the tough spring is holding it open

heinnie is 70 quid but u can one off ebay for bou 53 for spydie guys in texas that includes deilivery takes about 6 days that who i got mine off

The Police may take too kindly to a UK Pen knife either. Yes, it's within the size limit but barely, yes the blade is strictly non locking but the amount of pressure required to close it is going to mean some may think it IS a locking blade, or is so close that it makes no difference.

It is unlikely some plod will ever see it or ask to, but if they did I want to be on the right side of the law.

It's up to you. Unfortunately, you can be completely within the law but if a plod decides to be an a$$ there's a not a lot you can do.

it's not barely within the legal limit is it the without questsion within it and if you ask the Police man kindly to try and stab something with it he'll find that the blade "unlocks" quite easily which is they're main concern so it seems despite the fact that i'd rather near be stabbed that slashed with that little knife because it cuts like a razor, God forbid of course :D. yea you sort of have to way whther or not you will ever be asked or searched. But then you have the ultimate come back that it IS THE uk legal pocket knife. Fallkniven do some too but the Spydie is the only one with a pocket clip the rest have pouches which make them pretty noticeable.

Just it's lsightly more expensive. I hated Spydie's until I got the SPK and well my opinion has been wholly changed and that is unusually for me because I'm a stubborn boyo :D

The law in England is slightly opaque..you have to have good reason for carrying a knife or even having one in locked luggage in your car! The term offensive weapon is also ambiguous, anything COULD be an offensive weapon really.

Tourists from England visiting France and bringing back one of their famous Opinel knives could be breaking the law, it's a locking knife as is my tiny Böker 2 inch lockback.
Choose a small pocketknife (even a lockback) and you SHOULD be OK providing you can justify carrying it, if you are stopped just don't say anything about defence or the like.... and don't carry more than ONE knife at a time. The coppers view that as evidence of particular wickedness...

I'm amazed that it seems no-one has yet come up with the most commonly carried knife that will not get you into trouble with "The Boys in Blue" just because you have it with you. Inoffencive looking, recognised for what it is across the globe, very handy to have for a variety of tasks whilst travelling both at home and abroad, and I never go anywhere without mine and have never had any trouble with the Law in any country because of it.....

S.A.K. !

The law isn't really opaque just it's left so much in the hands of the police man. The real ambiguity comes from where the three inches starts from, it is the cutting edge or the blade in toto. It is mostly the blade in toto whihc would keep you out of trouble. And technically you don't need to have a reason as the law allows you that sub 3 inch bladed slip joint but you do in reality have to justify why you are carrying it, "I'm a knife nut" usually don't cut it. :D

I hate SAK had a few and they really are pathetic in my honest opinion, Get the Spydie or the Falkniven a knife that will work hard and hold up to it.
