I have a childhood friend that just finished up his Search & Rescue Training. I thought I would make up an knife for him as a gift (He is not into Knives and was planning on carrying a small Buck folder)...

I will try to get him to take some In use photos once he receives it this week.

Comments welcome (Good or Bad) I am thinking of making a few more of these in the future.

Specs:
1095 Steel (3/16" Thick)
OAL: 8.75"
Blade: 4.5"
Scales: Cocobolo Dymondwood
(I typically hate Dymondwood but these looked sharp)
1/4" Stainless Steel Tube Pins
1/8" Nickel Pins

Thanks for looking

I like it. The cocobolo looks amazing, and the handle ergos look super comfy:thumbup: How thick is the blade stock?

great looking blade, and it should be able to handle any tasks thrown it's way in a search and rescue situation.

Really nice job, good looking knife. Like others said, the handle looks comfortable, the size of the knife is right. If anything, I would have the two front pins parallel with the ricasso, instead of lengthwise.

I like that quite a bit. If you decide to make more, let us know the price on them. I'm sure you'll sell a few to people on here.

He is a lucky man. That may just start him on the downward spiral of knife lusting.

Thats beautiful work there..forget him..I'm "knife lusting" here!(lol) With that kind of hardware on his hip I bet he'll find SOMETHING that just NEEDS to be cut!

That looks great. I absolutely love the blade shape.

That looks terrific!!! I absolutely love an elongated willow leaf shape for a blade. It gives just enough belly but with a great sharp point. Your handle is spot on! It has everything it needs for comfort and control and nothing it doesn't. Great style, and fit-n-finish

Wow... thanks for all the great feedback, am still in that stage of knife making that friends and family get tired of getting knives for Birthdays, Christmas etc.... I really like the blade shape on this as well.
6shooter- the blade is 3/16" thick.

My buddy has helped me out in many points in my life, he is the guy I can call no matter what and he is there. feel honored to have him use it while helping others. I really want to take it out and get it dirty, I will be making another one for me

I think your friend is going to appreciate you making a knife with him in mind. That is really good looking knife. IMO Cocobolo is a great choice for the scales, given it's a SAR knife, and the notch at the choil would be convenient for using with a firesteel. Just out of curiosity, how much would you ask if you decided to make more of this model?

Preacher, I don't think we are supposed to get into sales. If you want to shoot me a PM or Email, that would be great! ;)

Sorry missed this one. I haven't ever put the pins parallel to the ricasso, I get worried about getting to close to the top and bottom edges and the scales splitting out, especially with natural wood materials. I will have to keep that in mind on the next one and see how it looks. Thanks!

I'm a long lost cousin and I will NEVER get tired of getting knives from you for my b-day, x-mas, easter, thanksgiving, 4th of july, labor day, new years day, or any other holiday that you want to give me one.

I will like my next gift to be around 1/8" or so thick. Otherwise, exactly like the one pictured. Thanx! :D:D:D
