New Knife... Search & Rescue

Thanks for the info. Loving this one more and more the more I look at it. Has it gone out to your friend yet? I'd love to see some in-hand and comparison pics with other blades to get an idea of the overall size. Really nice work on this one dude:thumbup:

I still have it, will drop it off tomorrow... Here is a shot in my better half's hand, My hand is freakishly large and covers the entire handle :o

Beautiful and lucky friend better like it!

Looks basic but that is what I like about it. Basic outdoor anything knife. For his search and rescue operations I think a deep fitting strong holding kydex sheath would be in order. I love leather but it has its drawbacks. But with proper maintaince of the blade it should not be a problem. Leather retaining moisture is what I am implying. For a man that is not into knives I think some sort of blueing on the blade to retard corosion would be good. But I am sure you will tell him to clean it after use. I still feel that for search and rescue, Kydex is definatly the choice for retention and moisture control. "You asked" Very good job and I look forward to seeing more.

I love the knife. 1095 done right is always a good choice. You say you may make some more. How much $59.95 (grin) Looking forward to seeing them.

Edit: After my reply I scrolled up and saw the knife in hand. Perfection is to light a word. Just the right size, shape, handle etc etc. I like simple performance and this is what this knife will give. And I noticed a small phob installed. I would have one that your friend could pass his hand through. He could find himself dangling upside down some day and need to cut something and it would not be good for the cutting implement to go tumbling down the side of a hill, cliff, a whatever. Sorry I am not a one liner in replies. And some day I need to learn to do multiple quotes so there are not three of my replies in a column together in the same spot.

Wow... thanks for all the great feedback, am still in that stage of knife making that friends and family get tired of getting knives for Birthdays, Christmas etc.... I really like the blade shape on this as well.
6shooter- the blade is 3/16" thick.

My buddy has helped me out in many points in my life, he is the guy I can call no matter what and he is there. feel honored to have him use it while helping others. I really want to take it out and get it dirty, I will be making another one for me

You are truly blessed. Men like them are a very rare blessing. I call "friends" when bummed out. "Oh let me check my schedual, I may be able to go walking with you next weekend for ten minutes". That is the kind of friend that one does not need. A great knife for a great friend.

Oh and I will give you my birth date if you need more birthdays to fill orders for LOL. My birthday, aniversary, the day I pulled my first tooth, Uh mm Oh and my wifes birthday and since she does not like knives I will get it. ;)And I gurantee I will never tire of such a gift. :D

Preacher, I don't think we are supposed to get into sales. If you want to shoot me a PM or Email, that would be great! ;)

Sorry missed this one. I haven't ever put the pins parallel to the ricasso, I get worried about getting to close to the top and bottom edges and the scales splitting out, especially with natural wood materials. I will have to keep that in mind on the next one and see how it looks. Thanks!

I think you are 100% correct with putting the pins longitudinal. My sugesstion would be farther appart. As a carpenter, woodworker, etc, I know what you mean. Why be like everyone else though. Let this be your trademark. But as the pins put horizontal could cause the edges to split, putting them longitudinal could cause a split down the scales. Farther appart longitudinal is my input. Ahh what the heck the knife looks absolutly great as is. And if you need to field test that placement of the pins I know of a guy willing to do a very very long test procedure on one of those for you.

I had a feeling this might get moved from W&SS, guess I should have taken her out for a test run in the wilderness...

I'm a long lost cousin and I will NEVER get tired of getting knives from you for my b-day, x-mas, easter, thanksgiving, 4th of july, labor day, new years day, or any other holiday that you want to give me one.

I will like my next gift to be around 1/8" or so thick. Otherwise, exactly like the one pictured. Thanx! :D:D:D

Haha... I thought you looked like my Grandmother on my Dad's side!

Next time I move house I will give you a call... :D
and I haven't messed with Kydex yet, I am sure it would be a great option and may look into having that as an option down the road! Thanks for the suggestion...
