New Knife Woes

Komondor - I've actually had two lockbacks with absolutely no play. Granted this is probably out of 20 total. They were a 110 and a Endura. I've never been able to find another that locked up as solid. I really got lucky.

I don't mind liner locks either. I own only two knives right now and there both liner locks...A Starmate and a Military. (I'm a college student, that's why my collection is so small. :D I'm going by quality, not quantity anyways.) I would trust either one with my life if necessary. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a liner lock if you get if from a good company such as Strider, TOPS, Microtech, or Spyderco. I'm sure there are others out there but these came to mind first. I'm looking for a different lock simply so my collection will be a little diverse. From what I've read, the Maxx will hold over 1000 lbs on it's lock. That's more that a Chinook! The frame lock really intregues me, why don't other manufacturers start making them? Hopefully, despite the large size, it will carry well. If not, I'm sure a fellow BF memember would like to purchase it. I'll try to use it for a little utility work but, it's main purpose will be defense and the fun factor. I've studied knife defense, and I think if you have a choice, bigger is indeed better.

I've never bought anything from Camillus but, here at BF they seem to have a great following. From what I've gathered, Camillus is pretty innovative much like Spyderco. I think they were the first to use Talonite in a production knife. Hopefully, Camillus will put out some more DR collaborations. I absolutely love DR's work.

I really hope Camillus gets this one right, I've never been so excited about a knife before. :p

Electric Zombie,

Maybe the Maxx does hold 1000 #s of pressure on its lock. Do you really want to carry around a folding sword in your pocket? Although this knife appears to be very, very well made (Ralph design/Camillus production speaks for itself), its massive dimensions demand that you pay it due consideration before purchasing it as an EDC.

Besides the fact that I think the SERE 2000 is an outstanding EDC, I recommend it to you because you frequently ask about tactical folders in this price range. The other knives in your collection are very nice, but I am fairly convinced you will be very happy with the Al Mar should you get one. Just an outstanding knife for the money.

Esav,

Sorry about that "full of shyte" comment. It was a little harsh and you are cool to not get PO'ed about it.

As long as the comment doesn't strike home, I don't take it personally

Besides, we're all in it for the knives. I don't like to get people mad that carry knives

I'm waiting on that Maxx myself. There are a few places I won't carry it, just like there are places I won't carry my LUDT. Come to think of it, where can I carry my LUDT?

Going by the blade shape, the CUDA Maxx will be a kind of folding Bagwell bowie, a real combat knife. Sure to raise the hackles of any police officer you point it at. So don't. The more knives I get, the less inclined I am to see them as weapons.

Like my Sebenzas, the Maxx with its integral lock will clean up nicely, and the looong blade helps, too, making it one of the few folders I can comfortably use in the kitchen. (The other two are Cold Steel 5" Twistmaster and 5" Voyager clip.)

Kill that cheese! Cut off that cabbage's head!

PeterLC, yes, they are discontinued. However, there are still prenty floating around out there at reasonable costs. In fact, last time I checked there was one on the For Sale forum that was down to 1oo bucks.
