My Kershaw lifter just isn't cutting it anymore. I have a budget of about $80. Requirements... Tanto. Preferable the blade to be more like the 910 Stryker with the longer second edge and less like the Kershaw brawlers tanto style. NO serrations. Between 3.3-3,6 inches. No mini griptilians. I wear large to extra large gloves if that makes a difference. Deep carry is preferred. No spydercos either I just really don't like the hole. I'm looking at the Ontario pardue utiliac at the moment. But other suggestions would be nice.

Yea the Lifter has to go.. The utilitac you're looking at is a good choice. 2 others are the kershaw Link Tanto (avail w aluminum or GRN scales), and the Kershaw Emerson cqc8 (with wave feature). Also let's not forget cold steel Recon and/or the Code 4. Both with updated CTS-XHP steel, and they have the strongest lock of any production knife that I know of. I love my Link for $30 but with an $80 budget get a cold steel with XHP. It's a powdered steel made by carpenter and is leaps and bounds above anything I mentioned. Combined with the triad lock.. you're in business

Hey one advantage to the lifter tho is the fact that it is SOOO crappy that I can sharpen it on a random rock in my yard to a working edge. I've thought about the Kershaw emersons but that would mean me cutting off the wave with the grinder because otherwise who knows what it'll do to the shorts I wear at times

Crkt has the BT-70, which is a solid knife for right around your price range. Go to their site.

I can appreciate that.. sometimes basic utility steel is just simply convenient for those who don't like to spend time sharpening. I will however say that the XHP is nice because you'll have to sharpen it less. That said, it will take longer when you decide to, and I don't recommend a rock in the back yard. If that's what you want, the Aus8 on the utilitac or classic buck 420HC on the Link will be just fine.

I don't want to be able to sharpen like that. I was using that as example of how bad it is. I want something that will hold an edge for atleast a few days not the half a day. And I'll look at the suggestions right now

Ok.. the Recon may be over budget but the code 4 will be right there. Make sure it's with XHP and not in the older aus8.

Only thing I would consider buying in 3cr13 Steel, like the lifter, is maybe an axe head...

+1 on the Cold Steel Code4 tanto in cts-xhp though... I have the clip point and it's a great feeling handle and a great Steel for the price range...
Blade profile is more like the brawler then the stryker though. A more traditional American tanto.

Kershaw Tanto Blurs are another great option in BDZ-1, if you like the assisted opening of the kershaw, it's a fine grained Steel used in stainless razors, that takes a really sharp edge.

Also the US made Kershaw Link (420hc) or the Chinese made Kershaw Thermite (8cr13mov)
