Its hard to tell from the photos.
Does the rear portion of the handle swell across the width of the knife(in the direction that would be coming towards the viewer of the photos)? I see that it does have some flare across the chord of the knife, I just can't tell the other dimension.
For me, the swell there is support important for a chopper. That's one of the things I love about Ethan's knives, as it gives me a lot of confidence in my grip on the knife while I'm swinging it. So that's why I'm asking (as I've not had the pleasure of handling one of your blades yet).
Also, I do like the blade profile. I am not a fan of choils though (no offense). If I got this knife, I'd have to grind that off.
Oh, and about the 1217. Hasn't that "new" grind height (which is actually just the original grind height) a few year old change now? I seem to remember a few threads about it a year or two back.
Photos definitely make it hard to catch, here's a photo from a better perspective for you.
No offense taken on the choil, that's the cool thing about having so many designers and brands to choose from, or having the tools to tweak your knives the way you like!
