What is the longest you've gone without buying a new knife. Not new to you.. but directly from the maker or dealer?

Besides a Bugout... quite a long time. I usually buy used or atleast off the exchange. Most of the time buying used you can barely tell. There’s also nothing holding me back from using a blade that’s already used and it’s usually easier to recoup costs if I decide to sell. I usually try to avoid buying new from a dealer except for exclusives/sprints.
Even the Bugout that I bought was $10 less than what they sell for from all the major dealers

~11 years I am guesstimating. ~04/05 until 2016 (SOG Seal 2000 Seki back then. Now I'm more into folders.)

Umm, well I really only tend to buy a handful of knives ever year, the last I bought was mid December and before that back in February I believe.

The longest I've gone is probably 2 years.

Just wondering as if I recall I haven't bought a new one Since last January and I was hoping it was obvious that I wasn't talking about from birth

I started buying knives around 12 years old, obviously wasn't buying as often back then so I can't say an exact time period between buying a knife. Maybe a year at most.

Yep same here started buying knives when I was 11-14 and have bought at least one a year since then. So no longer than a year ;):D

7 years if I remember right. I lost a knife about 2 years ago that I carried for about 11 years. I've bought a few knives here and there after I lost it. However, this thread just made me realize that I've bought 8 knives in the last 3 months. I wonder if has to do with the fact that I joined this forum 3 months ago? Not a good sign for my wallet

I bought a new one today from a BF authorized dealer. Dealer purchases are something I do perhaps three times/yr.
However, most of my purchases are ANIB from someone on the Exchange...which has worked out very well.

Few years in between purchases. I bought 2 knives in '17 and one was a gift. Nothing so far in '18. I'm in downsize mode.

I think that fact that I have absolutely no clue ... must mean it's not very long ... that or life was happening and I just didn't pay any attention? ... *shrugs*

Taking in my whole knife buying history there was probably a gap of 30 + or- years I didn't buy a new knife. I don't think I even bought a used one during that period. I just carried what I already owned-usually Gerber Paul knives. More recent history since joining forums-maybe 3 or 4 year between new knife purchases, but I sure bought a huge number used off the exchanges during that period..

In my life... Probably at least 30 years - 1985 - 2016 ish - Between buying a Cabela's Tree Brand (Boker) drop point hunting knife, and the time the knife bug bit.
Since 2016 I bet the longest I went was about 3 months. But in that 2 years, I've acquired about 80 knives. I'm not OCD, I'm just thorough.

So, 26 years.

But then I got back into traditionals and it's hardly been more than a few weeks in between. ;)

I've recently got into lurking at the Traditionals for Sale subforum here and getting some really good deals on neat older knives. I try to limit my monthly expense to what I used to spend on beer. I'm 10 months into quitting for a year so I've picked up a few knives.--KV
