New Knife

I've recently got into lurking at the Traditionals for Sale subforum here and getting some really good deals on neat older knives. I try to limit my monthly expense to what I used to spend on beer. I'm 10 months into quitting for a year so I've picked up a few knives.--KV
Congrats on the quitting!
Are you considering extending that year into a longer timeframe?

I only buy brand new from a dealer. I never buy used.

Since my knife addiction really flared up in 2007 , the longest I've gone without buying a new knife is @ 6 months. Before that it was more sporadic.

4 weeks into the new year and I've already purchased 4 new knives. And I have my eye on a 5th.

Just guessing, about 3 years. If my memory serves me correctly, I bought a new Spyderco Native from Wally World in 2008 then a new Casexx traditional stockman with gum fuddy handles in 2011.

Late 80's to late 90's---so 10 or so years there

Late 90's till around 2006--about 7-8 years there

2009 to 2014---5 years there

I seem to acquire quite a few in a short time---feel satisfied and move on and then come back to it

Since 2014 I've bought at least 20---maybe more---have been on a Benchmade kick lately.

I quit for several reasons. I may have a beer on my birthday or anniversary /special occasion but definitely won't go back to the daily drinking. The medical aspects and feeling better are certainly worthwhile. Having drank every day for 45 years, it's taken a little time to get used to it.(:--KV

More power to you my friend! It is well worth the effort. ;)

Good for you. I started doing the same a month ago. No weekday drinking at all and no getting visibly drunk on weekends. Maybe an actual beer or two (not 8-10!). Too old for that shit.

The very odd light beer or glass of wine is treating me much better than multiple tequila shots and 7%alc IPAs almost every night!

I plan to give it a year and see how I feel about it then. One of the major reasons for quitting was to support my daughter's recovery from long term heroin addiction. It was difficult to have a conversation with her about her problems knowing my drinking issues. We're both right at 10 months clean now. Feels good to get up in the mornings.:)--KV
