Recommendation? new knife

Idk where people are getting poor QC from Benchmade. I would take whatever they say with a grain of salt. Every single Benchmade I've bought has been razor sharp with perfect lockup and absolutely no blade play at all. I can't wait to get my 801-1801 from KW!

I believe the strength of the axis lock has been proven as quite strong, the omega springs can be a different story. Depending on how much you trust cold steel's torture test videos, they have shown the axis to be nearly as strong as the triad-lock if I remember right.
The axis lock is not quite in the same league as the Triad lock when it comes to strength, so im afraid you may have been misinformed there. It is a nice convenient and easy to use lock tho, but it relys completely on light spring tension and the thickness of the liners that the axis bar rests against to stay locked up without play. Its still very strong in slow torquing pressure, but not so much in sudden impact tests as the bar can slip out and the liners dent permanently when abused with silly spine wack tests. But you should’ be abusing a folder this way anyway so its not that big a deal. OP, they’re both great knives I’ve owned and used both of them for years, the recon is a tougher knife with much better ergos and it slices better. The contego is a unique, good looking knife with some nice osborne flair and great steel. You would be very happy with either of them. Buy both :)
