HI everyone,
I was wondering which of these knives you would suggest getting for general outdoors use. 1 A usmc ka-bar. 2 Buck 119 3. Buck nighthawk. 4 One hand trekker Or 5. a stay glow climber.

Thanks,
ace

You really have two different catagories of knives there. For everyday all around use that doesn't include heavy wood splitting or batoning I would say the OH Trekker for sure. Ideally though you could pick knife 1,2 or 3 along with knife 4 or 5 and have a 2 knife combo that wood do just about anything for under $80.

Strange mix there bro but I guess as a tough all round knife I would go with the Nighthawk !!!

Dont know, love my Ka-bar, and my 119. Ka-bar for me, but pair it with a fine cutter for sure.

Of the knives named,I say for 90% of outdoor task can be accomplished with the OHT,pair it with a larger blade or axe-machete and your pretty much coverd imo

The only knives on your list that I can recommend from experience with them, are the USMC and Trekker.

Personally, I think that the USMC would do OK as a camp knife, but it isn't the best out there for the money they ask for them. I think that if you are after a survival type of blade, get the Rat7, which I think is a much better design for survival and camp duty. Or, get a Mora 2000, a Fiskars 14" axe and the Trekker for about the same money.

The sheath that it comes with leaves something to be desired, but if you like KaBars, then I highly recommend their large bowie for an outdoors/camp knife. I just came back from a 3-day trip with mine and it was especially handy for baton-splitting wet timber to get to the dry core and scraping tinder. I also find that the handle on this knife is extremely comfortable, though it may be a personal thing. It handles well for fine work, sharpens easily, and is a nice chopper. Overall, I consider it an excellent buy for the price, and an excellent knife in general. Team one up with a Leatherman Wave and you have a combination that I'd gladly take into the woods any day (and do).

I agree that the Ka-Bar isn't really an ideal camp knife in my experience. It's not a bad blade, I just don't feel that it's really well suited to any or many particular camp/woods tasks. (This is not to suggest that others who choose that blade have made a poor choice, the blade just hasn't worked for me individually.)

Of the ones you listed, I like the OH Trekker best. I would pair that with a Mora and either a good folding saw or a hatchet (Wetterlings, Fiskar) and you should have all your bases covered.

The One-Hand-Trekker is the most useful one you listed without a doubt.

I prefer the OHT's cousin....The Jumpmaster:
