You guys have had some great ideas before, and I need your help again. My wife often has to leave work in the dark in a large Metro area, and I got her a Cold Steel Urban Pal push knife to keep on her keychain, along w/her monkey ball. She loved it, but the Kydex sheath loosened up at some point, it fell out, and someone got themselves a free knife. She put me on orders to “not get me another one of those; I’ll just lose it.”

So here’s the question—which alternative would you recommend for something that would be readily accessible if she needs it? No, I don’t expect her to actually use it on somebody, but a lot of assaults have been prevented just when someone displays a knife. Basic idea is that it look intimidating but not be too big or heavy.

Thanks for any/all suggestions and input.

I got my wife the Izula (pink of course :p). If the sides of the sheet are cut, sanded down to the point of just the hollow part hold the knife, it will fit nicely into a pocket or her purse. It will feel great in her hand and is not a huge overbearing knife for a lady!

Hmmm, you know, one of the knives on my "want list" was the new orange Izula exclusive at Knifeworks. I could maybe get her a present, and, you know, as long as I'm placing an order for her, I might as well, you know, get a knife for myself while I'm at it. :D

I don't know if I am saying it right, but what about a besh knife by ka bar? Or a cold steel k-4 neck knife if you can find one. If you googleyou can find a straight edge one.

I would tell you, but you're a Vol fan! :D

(just kidding! Another vote for the Izula or perhaps one of Fred Perrin's neckers?)

Kershaw Rainbow anodized chive ? This was the first knife I got my wife !!!

Excellent suggestions, all, esp. in terms of size, weight & looks. Thanks. I do know that while she'd probably like some variety of Leek, she d/n like the rainbow titanium stuff on anything.

Neck knife is a valid option as well. Can get the little kydex sheath for the Izula and turn it into a necker, too. She prob. w/n like the K-4, but they're cheap and I've been wanting one, so I could get one of those, too, and offer it to her, along w/another choice or two, and if she d/n like it, oh, well, another one to add to the collection.

Yeah, regardless of what else happens, I'm thinking that one is a dead certainty. She has a UT orange 350Z convertible, and we met going to school there.

You know, nothing says love like slashing, stabbing implements combined with a "true to your school" color scheme. :D

Well, since you are a Vols fan I say get an orange Izula for her and yourself.

Well, if nothing else she'll be safe during deer season. :D

Freakin UT fans LOL!

Seriously, that La Griffe is a nice piece, but the Izula is almost a no brainer. The orange, as revolting to a Memphis fan as it is, would make it easy for her to see and grab.

I'm thinking Cold Steel Safe Maker or Safe Keeper, if she liked the Urban Pal and won't mind carrying a larger fixed blade.

The Izula is nice but not what I'd consider as a defensive knife, the La Griffe on the other hand had that idea in mind.

Izula is fine as a defensive knife...My wife has scared off someone with a pink mini grip before.

I know the La Griffe is actually designed for defense....but it's also designed for someone who knows what they're doing.

In that mind set no knife is right for her then. The Izula has a more utility shaped blade that will neither excell at defensive cutting or poking, one would need to have a better idea of how to use that blade style than a claw shape of the EKI. In a slicing cut the La Griffe will rip through clothing and whatever is behind it, the Izula will not have the same effect because of the large belly that's more suited to skinning game and general utility. That type of blade tends to glance off clothing.

Both will work but the La Griffe is better for the intended use. I guess it all depends on how you look at it, knife to match the car or knife to save your butt.

If someone is having to make tactical decisions on knives just to be safe walking to their car, then they need to be choosing a pistol, not a knife. My personal opinion would be another push knife. However, the mere presence of a knife will scare away most attackers.
