Alright, then, with no humor whatsoever, here's the deal on her situation and my thought process, in detail:
-She has not one but two carry guns, a S&W Model 64, and a Bersa Thunder .380, both w/Crimson Trace laser grips. Obviously, she can carry in her car and other places around town, but she is NOT allowed to bring her gun to work.
-I am concerned about where is illegal/impermissible for her to carry, therefore. She has the monkey ball and pepper spray, but I think better safe than sorry, and I'd like her to have a knife, too.
-If she doesn't like the knife, she won't carry it, period. No, it doesn't matter that it isn't the practical thing to do; JMO, but the majority of women aren't as practical as the majority of men; and this despite my wife being more practical than most.
-If it looks threatening at all (and the Izula in any color does, IMO), it may have the intended effect of repelling a potential attacker (she did this once when stalked on the street by a guy who started quickly closing in on her, and he ran off when she pretended to be pulling a gun).
-If it comes to her actually having to get in a fight with the knife, she's probably dead or at least seriously injured, anyway. This thing is for deterrence.
-As noted, I wanted to keep this discussion somewhat light-hearted, but the point (pardon the pun) was serious.
SO: Again, there is merit in all your suggestions. I'm prob. getting her the Izula regardless, and yes, color has a lot to do w/it. Tons of military/survival knives have orange scales as an option, and while my sports teams have nothing to do with their scales, that color, which I like, in no way denigrates the performance of the knife.
La Griffe and possibly KABAR Besh are likely additional choices (I'm getting her TWO knives, in other words: Izula plus one of these two) for a necker--the La Griffe is not only a better knife, though (on my own list, as well, yet again
), I think she'd almost certainly like the looks of it better.
I'll probably be getting her a pink Grip. later. Thanks, though, b/c I had no idea any of the sales proceeds went to breast cancer awareness until now. That's her anniversary (January) gift.
-Safe Keeper and Safe Maker are great defensive choices and look cool, but she d/n want another push knife, even though she likes them, b/c she thinks (right or wrong) that the choice lends itself to snagging the handle on something and/or falling out of the sheath and getting lost.
-Ya know, after all this discussion, I'm gonna tell her she needs to appreciate all this help a group of total strangers on this forum were willing to give in the way of input on one of her Xmas gifts.

If someone is having to make tactical decisions on knives just to be safe walking to their car, then they need to be choosing a pistol, not a knife. My personal opinion would be another push knife. However, the mere presence of a knife will scare away most attackers.
In that mind set no knife is right for her then. The Izula has a more utility shaped blade that will neither excell at defensive cutting or poking, one would need to have a better idea of how to use that blade style than a claw shape of the EKI. In a slicing cut the La Griffe will rip through clothing and whatever is behind it, the Izula will not have the same effect because of the large belly that's more suited to skinning game and general utility. That type of blade tends to glance off clothing.
Both will work but the La Griffe is better for the intended use. I guess it all depends on how you look at it, knife to match the car or knife to save your butt.
