New Knive in your fever..

We all have the fever for a new knife, even if it is a new used knife but what then? What do you do with that newest gem?

I normally inspect, use the lightest knife polish on it to really get the blade clean, treat the scales, then give the entire knife with a wax, usually
renassance crystalline wax, a very good light duty wax, which keeps any badness forming on your lovely newest found love!

I just go cut stuff. Then again, the fact that I'm a terrible collector is no real secret.

Usually, within a few days of getting a knife, new or used, it will be disassembled, cleaned and lubed. If it runs on bearings, I may install Skiffs. It will also get a new edge from my fixed angle sharpener. It's not a matter of the new knife needing this attention, but it's the fact that I enjoy sharpening and taking them apart. For me, it's part of the new knife experience as much as carrying and using it.

What do you do?

Well these days I take the blade out of this one because it is only the handle / color I want and swap in the blade alloy that I want from the knife that arrived previously . Then I cut away a bunch of the blade or thin it to about 2mm at the spine . Then I reprofile / thin behind the edge ~14 deg. per side / ~ 0.010 inch. Mirror polish the sharpening bevels . . .
then . . .
either use it a day or two or put on a microbevel right away ~ 1 degree per side .

. . . errrr lets see . . . hmmmm . . . if the pivot is a touch too slow I might adjust / squirt some WD in there . I don't need drop shut right away but not too sluggish is good .

OHHHH YES ! : and I adjust the clip so it isn't so tight on my pocket that it takes two hands to deploy it . (((Cold Steel))) .

From there I leave it here and there while I am making dinner or other chores and give it a glance now and again to admire it and see the edge wink back
PS : not that I am all picky or set in my ways or persnickety .

I suppose a time or two I have just put the knife in my pocket and enjoyed it too . Once or twice .
