New Knives that aren't perfect

jill, what knife did you order ?

Here's a picture of one side of the rub and I bet you know what knife it is.
I am in no way saying this brand isn't top-notch and I wouldn't buy another one.
This purchase didn't work out and the dealer only wanted to refund and the factory representative was totally helpful about it and even offered to try to find me a new perfect one, but being they are limited he wasn't sure there was any left at the factory. So, being it was on a Saturday I made the call to return it for a refund as time was limited to send it back.
In fact I still want one of these and may get one soonish if they are still around.

Only two knives I've gotten new were perfect, and both were Cold Steel Konjos. There was no scratch, no blemish, no imperfection on either knife. Any other knife I can find small little things that make no difference. I find the desire to keep a knife pristine to be a fascinating goal in that knives are tools and you either put them in a safe or you use them. You don't use them and expect the finish to remain shiny and pure. I'm sure that when Merlin drove Excalibur into a rock that he might have marred the surface slightly. Other than that, Arthur just put it in the sheath and took it out a few times.

I don't mind at all if a knife has glaring blemishes if I'm gonna use it.
But I collect and trade/sell a good bit so I do mind on 90% of the ones I own.

From the 40+ Spydies I bought only a hand full were centered being:

D2 Military/SE and D2 Paramilitary/SE (both gifted to me by Sal:cool::cool:)

FG Delica 4/SE (but then there was that ever present gap between the lock bar and scales)

G10 Navigator/SE

Furthermore ALL of my lockbacks have vertical play.

I've learned to live with the vertical play.

And as long as the off centerness is at the non clip side(so it won't likely rub the scale when thumbing it open) I,ve learned to live with that as well.

However I must say that it really ruins my day if I receive a 40+ Spydie that has these flaws:grumpy:

But despite that Spyderco will always remain my favourite company/brand.

Would be great though if they could solve these issues:)
