also i named it "THE BOSS" and it works GREAT!! i gave it a spin on some fallen branches from the halloween snow storm we had it takes out huge chunks of wood and cuts in a inch deep with a good swing i will post a video tomorrow

i respect the opinion of the men and women of these forums so i really hope you like it

I like it, reminds me of my Culberson Bolok...as far as the rough forge marks

Hell yeah, that is a good deal! Chop some wood and let us know how it performs, edge retention, handle ergos, etc...

i chopped for about 5 minutes before from what i got it chops great, its the best chopping of any of my knives and even my hatchet. the feel of the handle is great too but i would need to chop longer to see if there are any hot spots or real problems but i don't think there will be any

I like it! Just be careful, khuks are different.

yes i realize this now, its like trying to chop a branch with a wild animal but nothing my big mits can't "handle" ( pun intended ) :D

Are you getting any vibration transfer from the tang to your hand? Only problem I see from the design is that the exposed tang can hurt your hand when chopping, but I can't tell how thick the scales are from your pics.

it's just under 1/4 inch and no I don't seem to be getting much vibration if any at all

in the 5 minutes I chopped my hand never hurt

If you haven't used a khuk before, you want to have a loose grip, only gripping fairly tightly with your thumb and pointer, really. That will let the blade swing down into whatever you're chopping using it's own momentum. There's a lot of good information in the HI subforum about use and safety. You REALLY want to make sure you know what you're doing. A mistake with a khuk isn't like a mistake with anything else; they can easily take a limb or a life.

I admit I still don't like the design. The pommel looks uncomfortable and rough, the lack of a cho means you've got a stress point in the blade where the edge meets the handle, and if it were my blade I really really would want that handle to be fully covered. I suspect it's probably pinned and epoxied, otherwise I'd offer to rehandle it for you. But the blade looks good and functional, and it's awesome that it's performing for you. Definitely looks like a tough, useable KLO. The upside is that I probably wouldn't be afraid to toss that thing around and beat it up something good. I do love me a good khukuri though. Might be time to try making my own interpretation of one...

thing is the pommel is not really rough he smoothed the edges out for me

and like i said on the other thread i really did want the entire handle covered but it just wasn't in the budget, i think a year or two down the line i might send it back to him and have a new handle put on but honestly the handle hasn't bothered me at all

one more video, a close up look at "THE BOSS" i just hope you can change your mind and if you don't its cool i mean in the end its all personal choice im sure there are people who hate all khukuri knives in general

i mean i hate traditional khukuri handles myself, i find them uncomfortable and ugly

Yep, everyone has their own aesthetic taste. For me, functionality has it's own aesthetics. That swelled pommel gives you more control and safety on a chop, although I don't like the ring as much, and usually flatten them out. That's a pretty handle in my book.

if it didn't have that ring I would like it better but I still like American (English?) style handles better

I am in the middle of making one for a friend...It is made out of L6 and just about ready for Heat Treat....You got one for a great price.........I have lost count of the hours i have in it so far................It took four heats just to anneal it.....I am going to talk to the guy about the handle.....Is it going to be a wall hanger or a user..........?.................I think yours is looking better than the one i am making.................Heck maybe i will just keep it.............Your comments have got me thinking.......Interesting topic..................................carl.

The guy that i am making it for, borrowed one and traced the pattern while he was on safari in Africa........Looks just like yours......HOw would horse mat handles work on one?........................carl
