I just received this new laguiole from www.fontenille-pataud.com

I ordered it on Jan 11th and received it today, straight from France. I saw the article in Tactical Knives a few months back about them and got curious enough to purchase one. They are one heck of a knife, and definitely a change of pace from Striders and Busse, but pretty stout in their own way. There are different companies producing them, and this one met all my expectations, plus some.

This picture isn't the best but it will get my point across.

Very nice, Mark. I've been to France and have seen a lot of these knives. Not only very elegant, but also quite sharp!

What's the wood on the handle?

Enjoy your knife...

It's juniper, so it also has a pleasant aroma, a bit like pepper but hard to describe.

I like the fact that it is rather elegant, yet built strong enough to use, and handmade at that!

Very nice!

I was wondering how many people on BF's own Laguioles.
I figure they're definitely not as omnipresent in the USA as in France or even in the NL's. France being within driving distance, I got mine there on holiday; brass bolsters, polished blade and black horn handles, with corkscrew... Every French knife should have one!
About 8,3 inch opened. My largest folder actually.

I wish mine came with a nice leather pouch like yours though...

 ;)

I have two both in horn (seemed appropriate it IS a cattle knife) one is a mini only 7-8cm handle, the other is 12 or so.

Mark,

That is an EXCEPTIONAL Laguiole knife. Top quality. I own a number of them, and I WISH I had that one in my collection. The filework is superb. Thanks for lighting a fire under me......

My only frustration is the stiffness of the backspring. Most of mine are very hard to open, and would chop off your finger if it snap closes! Be careful!

blade747 - My is stiff as well, which is nice when it's open, but my daughter was a bit afraid when she closed it last night as I was showing it to her.

steve1701d - bensano is right, it is Sanvick 12c27. They have several choices, carbon, stainless, and damascus.

oupa - I ordered this http://www.cutlerytogo.com/lecol12eb.html Monday night. They answered my email question in minutes and shipped it yesterday. Good service for sure. This one will end up my daughter's high school graduation gift if it's as nice as I think it is. No girl should go off to college without a good knife...

Don't get me wrong, I like the hi tech benchmades, Microtechs, etc but it's nice owning a piece of old world tradition that's meant to be used as well as admired. I think if more people here in the states were aware of these they would jump up a little in popularity. They sure have with me.

I got mine from cutlerytogo as well. Yes their service is good.

What type of handle did you get?

Ben

I did not see any with carbon steel blades, I don't have the time to go through all those manufacturers listed on cutlerytogo. Can any one give me a shortcut to some?

I looked at a few companies on that site. Man, I have to say, this is the nicest laguiole I've ever seen. :)

We must have the same taste - getting myself one for my birthday in March.:D
