New LE 530-1303 REI Exclusive

@ Blade and Flame

Thanks for the response!

The knife is certainly a beauty, but might not be for me.

My only Benchmade is a mini grip and I am looking to add a few more to the rotation.

I am still considering the 940, MPR, and the Alias 1.

I won't derail the thread further, thanks again!

If you like the Axis lock of the Mini Grip, but are looking for something different, I'd say check out the 940 or 943. Those models are both very slim in the pocket and feel great in the hand.

That said, if you're interested in this limited edition 530, I'd say it's quite nice, especially if you are looking for something light and thin.

I miss my 943 more than I miss my 530. I would rather have a 940 or 943 and the cash in my pocket than the 530-1303. Heck, I would have rather paid the extra $120 over that for the Gold Class 940.

Or you could get them all ;)

Realistically speaking - however, both the 94x series and the 530 are my top favorite BM knives. They are both great in their own ways.. The price might be a little high for the 530-1303, but then again, you're not getting the regular Grivory version :barf:

Price seems to be the issue with many people (regarding BM's), but if you throw down, you will thoroughly enjoy this knife ;)

Man, I'm having a hard time trying to resist ordering one of those bad boys.

I have never handled a 530, but I am kind of leery of the positioning of the thumb studs.

To me they look to close to the handle to be easily accessible.

Thoughts?

There are some good comments and measurements above, but I would add that to some extent you just have to accept some compromises in a locking knife that is so thin that you could almost literally put it in your wallet. :)

Per my checks, and recent post here regarding differences between the CF and Grivory 530s, the CF version is about .045" thicker than the grivory scales version. At the thickest it is thicker than my 960 and almost as thick as the 940, both thin knives by Benchmade Axis lock knife standards.

Not a BM but my thinnest full size blade knife is the Kershaw Shallot. Definitely not an Axis lock and all steel construction but incredibly thin considering it has a relatively thick, .120" blade that is 3.5" long. If you feel that thin is in then a worthwhile addition to the collection. I have a standard version and the Damascus blade black handle version.

If you REALLY want thin, AGRussell has a line that includes several sizes of incredibly thin and light folders, one of which is (IIRC) a lockback. These knives literally would fit in a wallet, but we are now talking about much smaller blades.

Decided to pick up another one of these over the weekend, thanks to the $20 credit offered with the recent sale. With the REI member refund of $20, at least $160 seems a little more reasonable for this limited edition, doesn't it?

Anyone else take advantage of the REI sale?

At least you thought about the sale, unlike me lol:grumpy:;)

23 of these bad boys left. Seems like they've been going much more quickly over the last couple weeks. Get 'em while you can, guys.

Congrats to those who jumped on one! They are officially out of stock :o

Probably the last time they'll do a 530 in full CF - now all they need is a full polished/anodized Ti scaled version!!! With a super steel :)
