New Leatherman Knives

Groovy  I love Leatherman stuff, such a great build quality. I couldn't care less about his politics, if they went IPO I would certainly be in line for some shares.

Does Timmy hate us lefties!? :foot:

Most of us do, we only let you hang around so we can laugh as the way you write :p :D

They are pretty knives... I hope LM to compete with VIC in SAK market, competition makes perfect!

Leatherman's politics are bad for his business. I question why any business owner would make such a stupid move. It makes me question his ability to lead the company and make good business decisions.

Politics aside, I'm glad to see they finally are using good blade steel on some models. I wonder how their assisted opener works?

It sounds like the assisted opener is just a flipper such as the one on the CRKT M16. Since it said it was human powered and you can just make out the eip of the flipper in the photos. I read this in the Leatherman "brochure" Mr. Ritter had a link to.

On what research and numbers do you base this opinion?

The head of the Leatherman company endorsed Kerry in the last election, this seems a good reason to avoid their products.

Hey !! I can write just fine , provided I have at least 5 square feet to do it in. :D

Seeing as LM has an international customer base ...... I doubt a few "narrow-minded" yanks will be putting any major dent in their turn-over :)

In fact for every customer he may lose to his political standing - he will probably gain another .......

Personally, I think it takes courage and true commitment to put your business out there ..... knowing full well that not everybody will like it .....

Anyway .....

I carry a Charge and a Benchmade ...... so I won't be buying any of these new toys from LM .....

I wish they would improve their Charge range to include some of the features of the fancy SAK's like adding LCD displays, fire lighter, toothpick, tweezers, mag glass, compass, LED light etc etc .....

Or even better, incorporate SOG/Gerber/SwissTool refinements like having all the tools accessible from the outside, compound leverage pliers, replaceable wire cutters etc etc .......

PS - Why didn't they put a Stud on the Charge blades instead of the thumb-hole :(

PPS - Would love to see a LM SwissCard/ToolLogic style range ......

Not as far as I'm concerned it isn't.

Nice review and set of pics. That 154 blade at $100 looks like a great knife at a very affordable price point!

I didn't know anything about tim leatherman's politics. Now that I do, I am glad that I have been such a good customer. I got a leatherman when they first appeared locally and have also tried the competition. I consider my waves to be the most useful tools that I own. Have had a leartherman of one type or another on my belt every day for about 20 years.

Neat knives. I am anxious to see how they sell. I always thought that Victorinox was king of the multi-blade and Leatherman was king of the multi-plier but this may shake things up. It'll be interesting to see if they can dent each others markets.

I have always liked Leatherman products, unknowing as I was of his politics. I am a firm believer in people being allowed their individual rights, pro-gun, pro-knife, disabled vet. I was only limited to 2 candidates (people seem to forget about the 3rd parties) I would of voted for Bush. Instead as I liked the views of the Libertarian party I voted Libertarian.

All this is a moot point as Leatherman products are a good product at a fair price.

Right you are. AND they're made in the USA which, to me, in this day and age, trumps a lot. I admire Tim for having the guts to say what he believes. But then again what do I know, I voted for Kerry (and would do it again).

You have to remember that Tim is from Oregon. I cannot agree with his choice for POTUS but I think you should know that he sells me tools at half price so I can afford to ship them to the troops.
