NEW Leatherman tread

Leatherman should focus its attention on producing a real bladeless multitool like the discontinued knifeless Fuse, instead of goofy man-jewelry.

This is exactly right.

Each of the Leatherman lines should have at least one knifeless option.

Perhaps it's just my "something is better than nothing" mentality, but Leatherman does make a TSA-compliant MT, the Style PS. I have carried it clipped to the outside of my pack through several airports, including some states that are "less than friendly" towards knives (the TSA official in one New England state made a bigger deal about my KeySmart 2.0 and didn't even give the PS a second look).

In addition, you can get the bit kit with the slip on driver and slide it over the closed scissors for a screwdriver option. No, you can't majorly torque anything down with it, but if you just need to tighten something until you get to your destination, it does work in a pinch.

SP, agreed. And, as I noted above, I've taken a Dremmel to one of my Micras and it sails through TSA checks with no problem. And of course, the Dremmel solution is available to any Leatherman tool.

What would be more betterer is if Leatherman would produce a natively knifeless Juice and a natively knifeless tool the full-sized size range.

In the Juice line, making it entirely TSA compliant would be wonderful. No awl to reduce confusion. Simply replacing the knife blade on the S2 with a double sided diamond file would be great.

In the full sized range, a knifeless Rebar would be excellent, picking up where the knifeless Fuse left off. It would end up being thinner and lighter. More of a companion carry for those of who already carry a full sized folding knife. Really, the extra blades on my full sized MTs are just extra dead weight. I'm not giving up my primary EDC knife.

I like that idea!

Okay, I just stumbled on these on a dealer site, and must say that I want one.

Yes, as said, it's rather silly, but so is the Cold Steel Espada XL I have in my car. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Uhm, yeah. Notice, it's not "HELL YEAH!" but I can see myself adding one to my EDC arsenal.

It looks cool, and would definitely be a conversation starter.

Plus, that little cutter would be ideal to have when out tying jigs while crappie fishing this Spring. No need to put down something, dig something out of a sheath, and then open up a tiny (or huge) blade.

I would love to see some of those hex heads traded out for Torx, though...

Cool? Yes.
Will I buy it? No.
My wave is awesome, and my rebar is OK.
I think that leatherman should focus more on fit and finish of the stuff they already make.
And the new Juices are abortions.

I'm not a jewelry guy. I don't own a nice watch because I don't NEED one. I wear a small stainless steel chain around my neck with a simple silver pendant that my wife got me and my wedding ring as well as my $40 G-Shock watch. That's it.

But I gotta say, I want one. I think the idea is sound. When I first saw it and read the description before the history of the design, the first thought that popped into my head was, "Man, that would be perfect for our Disney trip in the fall".

When I go into places like the magic kingdom, I don't even want to have to goof around with carrying even a small tool (nor the hassle of packing a "knife" in even though we all know it would be bladeless). Same thing when it comes to pretty much any amusement parks. We have a local park here that also combines a water park section. That means having to pack as light as I can in order to get all of my crap into a $5 locker. However, I never like to go ANYWHERE without at some kind of tool on my person be it a MT or even just a simple pocket knife.

The Tread would give me a way to pry, open, and unscrew to handle pretty much any First World problem I might run into while tramping all over Mickey's estate. For me, a little bit of just-in-case hiding in plain sight is a welcome addition. I'd forgo the watch, though.

My main concern would be about how tight those customizable links are screwed together. I'm thinking a little bit of lock tite would be prudent lest your $80 bracelet pops into pieces at the worst possible time.

They have said that they are looking at doing adapters, my guess would be in the 18, 20 an 22mm sizes. Since the new apple-watch uses a standard pin, you should be able to adapt one of those on. I'm not sure what sort of pins or mounts the Pebble has, but they should be doing something for that as well.

I am impressed by ingenuity, but the price and what I am guessing will be underwhelming real world usefulness will keep most from giving it a try.

It's jewelry for knife/tool nuts like us and nothing else in my opinion.

I checked it out at SHOT.
Kind of cool, I like the thought that went into it but it's not for me, too heavy.
still I like that they are thinking and trying new ideas.

Agreed with the above, beyond which I feel insulted that Leatherman thinks we are all fanboys, suckers for any too cute EDC gadgets. $150/600 a copy??? Seriously??? I can wait until they are remaindered out at $7.50, at which time I will still not buy one. That would be my insult response to them.

Looks like a lot of machining and assembly work to hit a 50$ price without being fully done in china. If its out of your price range, that's fine, but I think they have an idea of what their product costs, and who they are selling it too. Keep in mind every commentator laughed at the cost of the apple watch, saying that only tech-savvy early adopters would drop that kind of money, and even then it would only be the hardest of the hard core apple fan-boys. They are flying off the shelves like hotcakes. So who knows?
If these are a for sure travel safe option, there are a lot of guys who will get one. Personally I want leatherman to do more in that price range. Yes I like my rebar, but I'd like it more if it was at the 150$ build quality level than the 50$ one.

I doubt that Leatherman could successfully market a deluxe $150 Rebar, and hardly necessary. Basically, that's already covered by the Charge TTi.

Two different tools. two different roles. Its all a matter of perspective and priorities I guess. You are right, there is little interest in expensive tools.

I'm hardly a Leatherman fan boy and I like it because it does seem like a useful tool I can wear as jewelry. I am looking forwardt I getting one.

But the leatherman president said he got turned away from Disney because he had knife on his multi tool is funny. The wife and I have season tickets for Disney and I never go without my Sog or sak.

I got one on the way love new stuff Iam sucker I know but I like the fact it has a glass breaker never know and if you wear all the time thee it is
