"...
To that end, Cartoon has snatched Les Stroud, the former host of Survivorman on Discovery, to host Survive This, a reality series that will feature teens learning survival skills and overcoming challenges in the wild. ..."

Apparently Cartoon Network is showing a sneak peek of it during their Spring Break 2009 programming next week. I can't find anything about when it will be airing normally.

Interesting. I look forward to seeing how they handle knife content in this series.

All the best,

- Mike

This is airing on YTV (a Canadian kids network) starting April 7.

My kids are looking forward to it, as they're big fans of Survivorman. (Heck, so am I.) Here's the synopsis from Corus (YTV's parent company):
"Chosen for their unique personalities and readiness for adventure, the participants, all between the ages of 14 and 17, are tested physically, emotionally and intellectually throughout each half-hour episode of this 13-part series. Les Stroud, the real Survivorman, puts each teen to the test with rigorous challenges, including: search and rescue; building a shelter; finding food; coping with hypothermia; and treating an injury. The teens who are willing to learn and grow the most under the most difficult situations will earn bragging rights, as the rest choose to drop out, one by one."

Notice they stay until they choose to drop out ... Les doesn't believe in kicking people off the island.

Yeah I don't know about that. There were times that I thought for sure Les was going to stab himself in the leg on Survivorman.

That's friggin awesome! That is how I thought the Survivor series was going to be when it first aired, I was so disappointed to find out it was all politics...

I just might watch this show.

To his credit i think he only bit himself once didn't he? albeit at the worst place possible, the middle of a jungle.

yeah, dont think the guy is a big knife nut. Always just uses cheap knives. Hopefully they'll be using SAKs at least.

Finally, something on tv to look forward to :D

I've just about run out of things to watch besides the military channel and it's infinite re-runs since survivorman ended :(

Survivorman is going off the air? I thought a new season was just released.

Nope - it was marketed as "all new" because it was starting to be shown a different station. It's last years episode on a new channel, that's it.

Ah Les, you did a good thing! I know how easy it is to finally let someone else do the work; I did that too, heheheh! (Of course CBC's "Everything Wild" was nothing compared to "Survivorman"). This may be a good thing to aim toward younger people, since Survivorman (for the most part) really only attracted those who were already experienced. I was actually just saying to my wife today, after a long winter of reading about snowmbilers being stranded, that basic wilderness survivial skills should be something taught in schools. I can't understand why Home-ec, typing, phys-ed and (in some schools, religion) is mandatory yet there is no course in wildersness survival skills even offered at many schools, let alone made mandatory for graduation. I think WSS is a set of skills every living human should be equpipped with; the basics aren't that hard to grasp, and if you ask me, are far more important than learning how to cook quiche at 13 years old.

Myright, that would answer my question as to why all the shows have 2008 in their production date. Darn...
