New liner material and adhesives?

I got some .030" white "High Impact Styrene" along with a bunch of colored "Vinyl PVC Tech" in .020" thickness from Tru-Grit.

I didn't think epoxy would be the right adhesive, so I did some research. I called Loctite and stayed on the phone long enough to speak with one of their R&D Scientists (and she even gave me her work number!).

Now I'm using Loctite's 324 and 330 two part adhesives for almost everything these days. It's an adhesive with a catalyst, which works amazingly well once you get the hang of it.

Haven't heard much about either the spacer material or the adhesives, but I'm liking them a lot.

The adhesives are expensive, but they are both rated "Structural" for commercial use.

324 "Speedbond" is high impact resistant, for close fitting joints.

330 "Depend" is unbelievable. It actually states in the directions, "Bonds virtually any material without time-consuming surface prep so critical with most traditional adhesives. Parts should be dry. No need to clean parts. Heavy grease, oil and dirt should be wiped away."

But it also says, "Not recommended for bonding Delrin, Neoprene, Polyethylene, Polypropylene or PTFE."

Does anyone have experience with these liner materials and/or these adhesives?

I haven't used that material but I have used west systems gflex epoxy. It is some serious epoxy and is pretty much the standard for a lot of knife makers nowadays. The only thing i can say bad about it is that, when gluing liners to wood scales, it can make the scales bowed once it sets up.

I've have West Systems epoxy (I like the dispensing mechanism when needed), but I've been using Acra-Glass for 35 years without a failure. IMHO, proper use of flock makes epoxy way stronger, but it's just not very handy.

I know one manufacturer that uses nothing but Loctite 324 Speedbonder on thousands of knives with unconditional lifetime guarantees per year, which is where I first heard of it.

When I spoke with the scientist at Loctite, she recommended these 2 adhesives out of hundreds of Loctite adhesives. I've been pleasantly surprised with them.

I'm wondering if anyone else is using these products because they are relatively new to me.

That liner material will just laugh at epoxy. It literally will just peel off.

I have used the CA Maxicure with good results but be sure to rough sand the sheen of the liners with 80 grit and tang or handle materials to get it to bond

I've used Loctite 330 for 4 or 5 years and been very happy. I do clean well. It's not sensitive to heat which was important to me at outdoor shows. Hard to find sometimes.
