Here's my new power hammer-
Good dove tails, tight all around except for the clutch pulley (side to side play). The ram moves well and even though the clutch pulley is a bit loose, it engages well and there is excellent speed and power control through the foot tread. I'll probably still need to pour a new babbitt. I need to find out where to get a new belt and I should probably replace the neoprene motor pulley that looks rounded over. Any tips on these last two would be appreciated.

Dean, I just did the pulley on my 25 and have a mandrell and stuff to pour the babbit. Your pully looks fine, it needs to be somewhat rounded to help with belt tracking. there is a place up off broadway that can make you a belt.

You lucky dog, she looks great!

I'm still paying mine off with no immediate end in site.

Good lookin hammer. Like Bill said, your motor pully is fine. Belt probably OK too, but would be nice to have a spare. Your clutch pully should have a little play, if it doesn't make noise and the clutch action is good, I wouldn't worry about it.

My (hopefully to be mine soon) LG 50 is still sitting over at Robert Eggerling's shop collecting dust. I'm in the process of acquiring it (ahem - that means making payments forever). I have visitation rights though and since he's only 8 min away from me I can go rub it down whenever I get the urge. :D

And yes please school me in September - I have much to learn. :)

So Dave-

Is September the big month when you pay it off? Even though I'm excited with mine I share your excitement and want to know when the big event occurs.

Hi Don,

You’re the inspiration for my taking this dive by the way. The belt looks pretty bad in other sections and the clutch does make a rattling noise as it tries to engage but only at the earliest stage. The slop is just enough that it warrants a repair but I will wait for a couple of weeks until I get help from Bill. He’s just restored the same part.

I really like this machine. As I cleaned and tuned it up I was worried as it misbehaved badly. Finally as I got everything tightened and lubed it has an incredible workability. It can tap ever so lightly and slowly to rapid forceful blows with fairly easy tread use. The big lunk sounds like a huge sewing machine! Dean (with a happy smile)

Have you greased the clutch pully, the fitting at the back of the main shaft? Bill, will be
good help pouring a new bearing.

Karl, I need a 50 to round out my collection :D

Most LGs' out there need a basic tune up, but folks just keep running them. When a little time is spent tightening, adjusting and lube in the right places, they can be truly amassing machines. I love em! :D

Remember the name of the shop Bill?

By the way, Dave....the fellow that transported this machine also had an Otto gas works 21 HP motor on his trailer. Massive fuel injected beauty worth $25,000! Have a few pics if anyone wants to see it.

Man...I wish I lived so close to Mr. Eggerling! I've met him a few times over the years, but always at shows and I hate to bother a man while he's working so I've never really had a chance to converse with him. I've actually got a press of his design that I recently bought from Larry Donnelly. Simple enough that I think even I could build one!

If you can go visit it, see if you can rent some forge time and start using it to make some stuff to help pay for it! :)

Deloid,

September is when the Ashokan Knife Seminar is happening. I'm demonstrating basic damascus forging, and Dave will be riding along in my truck with Butch Harner and J. Neilson on the way to and from. He'll come back a changed man for sure!

Do a goggle search for belt-tech. These folks can make you a belt that should last. If you have any issues PM me there is a belt-tech in shreveport.

Dean, it is McGuire. it is actually on amity by Norco but I always think of it as broadway. Anyway they made me a wide spliced belt a few years ago.

Don I seen pictures of you shop and you got lots of room yet:thumbup: I had to get rid of the bead blaster and move the bandsaw to make room for a 25 pounder:(
