Here is a new beauty from Don Fogg, a Long Saex based on a historical Viking saex. It is a wonderful blend of the old Viking and Samurai aesthetics with a hamon that is a wonderful saka-choji-ha. I am sure there are a vast array of superlatives that will be used, but for me, this piece is emminently purposeful and such a seemless blend of cultures that it would appear to be out of an established, age-old tradition.

Here is Don's description;
"This blade is hand forged from W-2 high carbon steel and selectively hardened and polished to reveal an interesting hamon. The point is dramatic on this piece and actually was taken from an artifact blade the Royal Ontario Museum. I was fascinated by the style and decided to make an interpretation. The blade is 16.25" long and 22.25" overall. The habaki is forged copper and the fittings are carved bronze. The handle is carved ebony and it is marked with my 24k gold cherry blossom logs inset into a bronze pin." (Don Fogg)
