Anyone got any info on this new Buck. Looking to see what steel they are using. Looks like a great little knife to throw on the pack.

Thanks,
rgc

After a little more thought, I think it will be 420 HC, but, now as to the price?

Iron City was kind enough to let us know that KnifeCenter.com now has pictures and descriptions of many of the new Buck models, including the 777 Lumina:

More information at KnifeCenter.com

Blade steel is listed as 420HC. Asking price is $39.95. This is one of Buck's imported models, if that makes a difference to you.

Hey ABN --

I'm just curious, but how did you discover that the Lumina 777 is an import? Is it imported from Taiwan or China? I've bought "Taiwan" models but no "China" Bucks for me!

Thanks for the link. I was trying to find out a price. It does take the luster off of it finding out that it is not made in the USA.

Ahem...

Sorry, scratch that '...no "China" Bucks for me!' I couldn't help it...I've been checking-out those model 728 Whitetail Deer Hunter Collectibles (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...type=21&dept=101851&path=0:101851:101868:4141) ever since before Christmas, I like how it looks, feels in my hand, etc. So, I was able to resist it until today.

The Buck 728's price has been reduced and reduced by Wal*Mart until it finally reached "the right price"...the place where the price overrode my dislike of where it was made. After all, one can't really tell how well a knife was made, depending only upon the longitude and latitude of where it was produced, so, I'm going to give this one a test run.

Now I have a 440C steel Buck without having to have been around to buy a Buck made back when they were using that steel in the U.S.A. :) Time machines would be a nice invention, though. ;)

What type of steel was used in a 1986 model 639 Fieldmate? Sorry that I don't know when Buck's changes in steel occurred, from the discarded files, way back when, until today.
